JAPANESE AMERICAN GARDENERS: THEIR STORIES THROUGH SENRYU

Through the pre- and post-WWII periods, the Japanese American gardener was the ubiquitous figure greening the yards of thousands of homes in the tracts and upscale neighborhoods around Southern California. Writers Naomi Hirahara and Senkyaku Seki will be featured speakers at this event. Selected senryu, or short poems, will be delivered by an actor dressed as a farmer. Audience members also will be directed on how to write their own senryu.  Learn Something New...
