FREE NEW APP, "TORRANCE GRAFFITI"

The City of Torrance is committed to maintaining a graffiti free community and therefore residents and business owners can call the City's graffiti hotline at 310-781-7149 and report incidents of graffiti. Graffiti that is reported to the City is removed within 24 hours at no cost to the property owner. General Services would also like to announce the availability of a FREE smart phone app for reporting graffiti in Torrance. The free app, named "Torrance Graffiti" is available for the iPhone on the Itunes App Store and on Android devices through the Google Play App Store.

Our nation's men and women of the military forces have defended our country, insured our freedom, and upheld the beliefs and principles that this great nation was built on. In May 2014, the City of Torrance will continue its long-standing tradition in its 55th consecutive year of hosting an Armed Forces Day Celebration and Parade to honor the sacrifices of our nation's military.
This year, the City will once again honor the men and women of our nation's military with a three-day celebration that will begin on Friday, May 16, and continue through Sunday, May 18. The Parade highlight will be on Saturday, May 17, and this year's honored branch is the United States Navy. The Navy Band Southwest will perform for free at the James Armstrong Theatre on Friday, May 16, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets were available at the Box Office on Wednesday, May 14, 2014. Ticket holders must be in their seats 15 minutes prior to concert time. However, there will be a line available for empty seats beginning 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start times. The 55th Annual Armed Forces Day Parade begins at Crenshaw Boulevard traveling west on Torrance Boulevard and ending at Madrona Avenue. All streets intersecting the parade route will be closed the majority of the day. Torrance's parade is the longest-running Armed Forces Day Parade in the nation. As one of few cities designated by the Department of Defense, the City of Torrance is proud to honor the men and women of our nation's Armed Forces. This year's honored branch is the United States Navy!
The Navy will be led by Grand Marshal, Rear Admiral Patrick J. Lorge, Commander, Navy Region Southwest and Honorary Grand Marshal Pat Coulter, long-time Torrance Armed Forces Day Parade Announcer. Cheer on our Troops...

The Western Museum of Flight (WMoF) has 20 Warbirds gathering ready to fly! The Commemorative Air Force will take you on a 20-minute flight ($165) or 45-minute experience ($365) over Torrance and surrounding area. The Warbirds will be on display at WMoF in advance of the afternoon parade flyovers. CAF Payment options are cash, credit card, or check. KATY GEISSERT MAIN LIBRARY AND THE BARTLETT CENTER

As we enter the summer months, the City of Torrance is prepared to "Beat the Heat in 2014" at our two cooling center locations. Individuals can find a cool rest area away from the heat at the Bartlett Center, located at 1318 Cravens Avenue, Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Sundays from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Katy Geissert Main Library serves as a second cooling center, located at 3301 Torrance Blvd, and can be accessed Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The library cooling center is also open on selected Sundays from 1 p.m. To 5 p.m. For more information on the cooling centers and helpful tips for the heat View the PDF...
