 INTRODUCTION TO BIRD AND BIRDING

MADRONA MARSH NATURE CENTER AND PRESERVE

Come join us for a beginner's guide to birds, bird-life and behavior. Each class will include a short presentation about the featured birds, followed by a walk on the Preserve to look for them. This month's program will be Nationwide Birding - history and the importance of the Christmas bird count. 

 

The Christmas Bird Count is the longest running Citizen Science survey in the world! During the holiday season it has become a tradition for nature lovers to go out in the field and document beautiful local birds. Join us for the 114th CBC and help us survey the local bird population. In order to attend the all day Christmas bird count on the 22nd, you must attend this class and learn how to identify different species and the proper methods of surveying an area. $5 per person. 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM | EXTRA SUPERVISION IS AVAILABLE 
VARIOUS LOCATIONS
The Recreation Services Division offers camps for children ages 6-14 during winter, spring and summer vacation. Each one week session includes arts, crafts, cooking, games, entertainment and a special excursion. Camp meets 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Participants may also register for extended supervision from 7 - 8:30 a.m. or 4:30 - 6 p.m.) Comfortable clothing, closed toe shoes and a sack lunch with a drink are required each day. Camp t-shirts are available for $7 per shirt and must be worn on all excursions. 
 
Winter Fun and Teen Camps will be December 30, 2013 and January 2 and 3, 2014. Registration for Torrance residents begins Tuesday, November 19. Registration for non-Torrance residents begins Tuesday, December 3. The Registration Office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and is closed every other Friday. Registration is open at the Registration Office until December 27th and 6 a.m. online until December 30th. For camp locations and more information Learn More...
