Computer Coding Event
November 5th from 4-6 p.m.

Learn the basics of computer coding by creating your own video games with a computer language called Scratch.  Control structures, parameters, variables, graphics, and other things are common across all computer languages, but simplified in the easy-to-use MIT designed Scratch development environment.  By the end of the program, you will be able to create basic computer games at home with this open-source, free software.

Bring your own wi-fi enabled laptop, or tablet, if you have one, with the latest Chrome browser installed.  Suitable for grades 4 and above.   Participants should have basic keyboard and mouse skills.

The library will have 7 laptop computers available for those who are unable to bring their own laptop or tablet.  Registration is encouraged to reserve your spot in the class.

Time for Change

The library board approved a revised internet policy and a new equipment use policy last month.

Starting November 2nd, users will be required to sign a liability waiver stating their acceptance of responsibility for using library equipment. This includes the public access computers in the library. Other library equipment such as the laptop computer, Netbook, and iPad can be loaned for use within the library at the discretion of the librarians. E-readers may be checked out for 21 days.

The liability waiver will only have to be signed once to use any of the library's equipment. The signed form will be kept on file until the policy is revised and a note will be added to the user's library account.
