Newsletter - Late Summer Edition

It's nearly back-to-school time, which is always met with joy by some, angst by others. One of my about-to-be-a-kindergartener friends was just here at the library and was experiencing a mix of emotions and I could so easily relate. We at the library feel the same way about the end of summer - sad to see our summer friends go but happy to step into the school year routine.

We have a number of programs the next few weeks to help the transition into fall. Whether your interests lie with children's books or the Green Bay Packers, music or fishing, (or all of the above!) we've got you covered.

Our Thursday Morning Conversations continue right into fall. Every Thursday morning at 10:00 you'll find a group of interesting and interested folks in front of the fireplace enjoying coffee, donuts, conversation, and community.

More soon, but right now I have to get back to adding new books and movies -

The Day the Librarians Took Over

Lauren Norton and Linda DeNell are passionate about children's books and the importance of reading for everyone - babies to centarians. The two friends are hoping to share some of their favorite books and series with you this Thursday morning at 10:00. Yes, the librarians are taking over Thursday Morning Conversations! (But just for one week.)

Will it turn into a battle of the books? Probably not, although each has favorites she will champion. And yes, both women will try to persuade you that reading aloud to babies and toddlers is one of the most important things you can do to help prepare them for later school success. They will have book displays and handouts listing recommended titles. And both are really looking forward to a solid hour of talking about one of their favorite topics over coffee and donuts. They even made sure to time their Conversation with the last morning LEGO Club meeting of the summer so that the kids had something to do while their caregivers were chatting. Clever ladies.

Join us, won't you?
Time to Celebrate the Green and Gold!

What better way to kick off the 2015 Packers season than with a program celebrating Wisconsin's favorite team? Retired teacher, author, and uber Packer fan Jim Rice brings his program Why We Love the Packers to the library on Tuesday, September 1 at 6:30 p.m. there will be stories, memorabilia, and over 300 photographs from the glory days through the present.
