Mary Persons High School is AP STEM School and AP STEM Achievement School
| |
Congratulations to Mary Persons High School! The school is one of 204 in Georgia this year to be named an AP STEM School. AP Stem School have students testing in at least two AP math courses and two AP science courses (AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, AP Physics 1, AP Physics 2, AP Physics C, AP Computer Science A).
Mary Persons is also one of 128 schools in Georgia with AP Stem Achievement School designation. AP STEM Achievement Schools are schools with students testing in at least two AP math courses and two AP science courses and at least 40 percent of exam scores on AP math and science exams earning scores of 3 or higher. "The number of our schools and students succeeding in the college-level learning offered by Advanced Placement continues to increase," State Superintendent Richard Woods said. "It is my pleasure to recognize these schools - and, by extension, their students, teachers, and staff - for the excellent work being done to expand opportunity to all students."
AP exams are administered by the College Board, which also administers the SAT. AP courses are one of several ways Georgia students can access college-level learning at the high school level; students who receive a 3, 4, or 5 on an AP exam may receive college credit.

TG Scott and KB Sutton Named Title I Highest Performing Schools for 2016-2017
| |
The Georgia Department of Education recently released its 2016-2017 list of Title I Reward Districts and Reward Schools. We are so proud to recognize K. B. Sutton Elementary and T. G. Scott Elementary for being named a 2016-2017 Reward School as a Highest-Performing School in Georgia. K. B. Sutton and T. G. Scott are among the top 5% of the state's Title I schools with the highest performance over three years for the "all students" group on statewide assessments among districts of our size. This distinction is a true testament to the dedicated, talented, and engaged staff, parents, and students that we have in Monroe County Schools. We will continue to put our children first in the decisions that are made so that all of our students can learn, grow, and succeed. Congratulations!
Reward Schools are Title I schools that fall into one of two categories:
▪ A Highest-Performing School is among the five percent of the state's Title I schools with the absolute highest performance, over three years, for the "all students" group on the statewide assessments. A school may not be classified as a Highest-Performing School if it has been identified as a Priority or Focus School. ▪ A High-Progress School is among the 10 percent of the state's Title I schools making the most progress in improving the performance of the "all students" group over three years on the statewide assessments. A school may not be classified as a High-Progress School if it has been identified as a Priority or Focus School.
