Congratulations to the following grade level winners of the Young Georgia Authors writing competition. Their entries will go on to compete at the system level.

Class Reads Tuesdays with Morrie
Mrs. Holloway's 12th grade Lit class recently read 
Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom. They selected five topics 
covered in the book and conducted email interviews (on Tuesday
with the teacher or administrator of their choice, similar in style to 
those they read about in the book. Additionally, students came up with 
their own aphorisms (pictured above) after studying Morrie's aphorisms.

The MP Chorus is in need of chaperones to accompany them to Warner Robins on Tuesday, March 14 for LGPE (Large Group Performance Evaluation). Participants will be loading one of 4 buses at 7:50 a.m. and returning at various times throughout the day: 1:00 p.m.3:00 p.m.4:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Chaperones must be BOE approved. Mary Persons High School Celebrates CTAE Week


During the month of February, students, teachers, and administrators across the state join others nationwide in celebrating Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE). Mary Persons High School has designated  February 21-24 as CTAE Week. Highlights of the week include daily CTAE trivia, club representation days, and treats for students in Career and Technical Student Organizations.
Shirt Fundraiser for Access Program

The Access Program is selling 3E Love Mary Persons Bulldog shirts to support program activities. 3E Love is a company that was started and is still run by persons with disabilities. By supporting this shirt fundraiser you support Mary Persons High School Access and jobs for people with disabilities. We hope you will consider supporting our fundraiser. Please send order forms & checks made payable to Mary Persons High School to Mrs. Chafin, Mrs. Holloway, or Mrs. Dyke. The deadline to order is February 24th.

2017 Prom Information
Prom will be held on Saturday, April 15th, 2017, at the Macon City Auditorium. Eligibility to attend prom can be found on page 58 of the student handbook. Dates from the middle school or over the age of 20 years old will not be allowed. A freshman and sophomore may attend if accompanied by a junior or senior date. If a student's date DOES NOT attend Mary Persons, that student must first secure administrative approval by submitting a "Date Approval Form" located in the front office. 

The cost schedule:
Jan. 30th - Feb. 3rd$55 for MP Juniors or unpaid Seniors; $25 for guest
Feb 6th - Feb 28th
$60 for a Mary Persons Junior or unpaid Senior; $30 guest
March 1st - March 24th
$70 for a Mary Persons Junior or unpaid Senior; $40 guest
**The "date" fee applies to Freshmen, Sophomores, and non-MP students.   However, date approval forms are ONLY NEEDED for non-MP guests.
These are due no later than Friday, March 24th.

Anyone with an incomplete balance will not be admitted into prom. Tickets can be purchased from Ms. Metcalf in room 504 AFTER school. Refunds WILL NOT be made. Keep all receipts as proof of payment.

Zumba Spring Fling
Please plan to join us for Zumba Spring Fling which will be April 28 at 7:00 p.m. Cost to participate is $25 per person. MPHS students with a school ID can participate for $15.00. Proceeds from this event assist students with basic needs such as food, clothing, hygiene items, school supplies, prom attire, graduation supplies, etc. In lieu of attending the Zumba Spring Fling, donations can be made payable to MPHS.

Senior Acceptance Bulletin Board: If you have been accepted to a college, 
please bring a copy of the acceptance letter or email your counselor so they 
can include your pictures on the college acceptance bulletin board.
Attention Seniors
Seniors that have participated in MOWR (including core college classes and 3rd year healthcare classes) during any year of high school will need to make sure that their college transcript, in addition to their high school transcript, is sent to the college that they will be attending. College admissions and registration will be placed on hold until the college receives both transcripts.  Links to request college transcripts are listed below.

AP Exams News
Students may start making payments for their AP exams beginning November 7th.  The coast of each exam is $94. 
The fee schedule is:
Nov. 7
Dec. 5
Jan. 9
Feb. 6
Mar. 6              
This will allow student to make 5 low payments (4 low payments of $20.00+ 5th payment of $14.00).  Parents can also pay for AP exams online via their MySchoolBucks account.  All major credit cards are accepted and there will be an additional $3 charge. Please see Ms Burston if you have any questions.  Students may register through their AP teacher or by clicking here.
The deadline to register for AP exams is March 3, 2017.  Please see Ms. Burston or your AP teacher to register.

Our SkillsUSA members took part in the Region Five SkillsUSA Championships in Griffin on February 2nd. Eleven students competed in seven different contest and brought home eight medals!

Because Region Five is the largest region in SkillsUSA Georgia several of our MP contestants were competing in a field of twelve schools, many of which have a much larger student population. It is no small accomplishment to qualify for these events and we are very proud of them and the hard work they put into their preparation.
 
All first and second place winners will advance to the SkillsUSA State Championships in March so expect to be well represented in the Carpentry, Plumbing and TeamWorks competitions.
 
Please extend your appreciation and congratulations to each of the students and their CHAMP-like efforts!

Basketball News

The varsity boys basketball team finished the regular season Region 2-AAAA tied for second and finished the Region tournament in 2nd place last week. The boys current 2016-17 season record is 18-9.  The Bulldogs advance to the 2nd round of AAAA playoffs with a win over Eastside! They will play St. Pius on Thursday at St. Pius.
