Adopt-A-Kid Christmas Program
For the past several years, Mr. and Mrs. Bullock, along with their son Brock, have organized the Adopt-A-Kid Christmas Program. This year, over eighty MPHS students were sponsored by community organizations or private families in Monroe County. Due to these sponsors, the spirit of Christmas was graciously entrusted to our neediest students. Many thanks to the Bullock family and multiple civic organizations, church affiliations and private individuals for your generosity this Christmas! If you would like to be a part of this program next year, please contact one of the school counselors for more information.

SkillsUSA News
MP Construction students recently competed in the annual Associated General Contractors Skills Challenge in Griffin, Georgia. The competition is designed to showcase the hard skills related to the four major building trades of Carpentry, Electrical, Masonry and Plumbing. Recognizing the shortage of young people entering the building trades, the Georgia Departments of Labor and Education, along with the Associated General Contractors, and other industry representatives, have collaborated to assist high school instructors with developing industry-specific job skills in their students. The annual AGC Skills Challenge is one of several events that allow the students to display their talents and discuss career development and employment opportunities with industry and post-secondary education leaders. Students were given real-world building designs and specifications that were developed by veteran tradesmen and educators and then expected to build in a safe, accurate and professional manner. MP students competed against students from twelve other high schools in the Central Georgia region.
Contestants representing Mary Persons were:
William Sewell, 3rd Place (left) & Aaron Bell, 2nd Place; Plumbing
Adam Dupree (left) & Madden McLendon; Electrical
Agustin Pompa-Correa, 2nd Place (left) & Robert Jackson; Masonry
William Atkins, 1st Place (left) & CW Walker; Carpentry
In addition to earning the medals listed above Mary Persons scored more total points than any of the other schools and took home the 2016 Region Cup trophy.
Thanks to all of the CHAMPs who spent so much time in preparation for the event!
