Mary Persons High School announces the 2016 four year graduation cohort rate. The rate rose to 88.04%, the highest recorded graduation rate in the school's history. The previous year's local graduation rate was 87.8%.
"The 88.04% graduation rate for the 2015-2016 school year is a testament to the continued efforts of a supportive and informed Board of Education, dedicated and talented Pre-K-12 teachers, effective administrators and support personnel, engaged parents and community members, and motivated and inspired students. This is truly a collaborative effort by all stakeholder groups," stated Superintendent Dr. Mike Hickman. "Our entire staff has done an outstanding job preparing our students for college, the world of work, and military service."

Georgia's 2016 high school graduation rate rose slightly from 78.8% in 2015 to 79.2% in 2016. This represents the fifth straight increase in the state's graduation rate.
This is the sixth year Georgia has calculated the graduation rate using the adjusted cohort rate, which is now required by the U.S. Department of Education. The four-year adjusted cohort graduation rate defines the cohort based on when a student first becomes a freshman; it is calculated using the number of students who graduate within four years and includes adjustments for student transfers. In contrast, Georgia's former graduation rate calculation defined the cohort upon graduation, which may have included students who took more than four years to graduate.
"In 2016, we awarded our most diplomas ever, 265, with a large cohort of students so, naturally, we were happy to see this graduation rate increase", stated Mary Persons Principal Dr. Jim Finch. "Through the support of our Board of Education, we are very fortunate to offer many programs that appeal to all students. Our teachers do an excellent job of providing a quality educational experience for each and every individual. Graduating students on time with the skills they need to be successful will continue to be a mission at Mary Persons High School."
