Senior News

Senior Picture Retakes
All seniors should have taken their senior pictures during the summer.  Seniors who were unable to attend during the summer may take make-up pictures at the school on September 8th, by appointment only.  Only photos taken by Lifetouch will be in the yearbook or used by the school.  Students may sign up with Mrs. May in room 206.

Senior Recognition Ads
Senior Recognition Ads are on sale until November 4th These ads for seniors normally sell out before the deadline. These ads are designed for those who wish to congratulate their graduating seniors with a personal message and photographs in the MPHS yearbook.  Ads are sold in 3 sizes:  full page ($250), page ($135), and page ($75). If you are interested in buying a Senior Recognition Ad (often called "Baby Ads"), complete the form and return to Mrs. May at MPHS with pictures, message, and money before November 4th

Monroe County Sheriff's Office Explorer Post!  Law Enforcement Explorers participate 
in hands on training and learn what it takes 
to be in law enforcement in today's world.  

Requirements to apply:
  • Must be 14 years old/finished 8th Grade
  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA in school
  • No felony or major misdemeanor convictions
  • Must be willing to learn and work hard!

Best Buddies News
Interested in joining Best Buddies?  There will be a very brief meeting on Wednesday, August 24th at 3:10 in the Media Center.  To complete a membership application, go to Best Buddies by September 7th. Membership dues are $10. T-shirts will be available for $10.
Beta Club News
Membership requirements:
  • A student must have a 90 or above cumulative average.  
  • After joining the student must maintain a cumulative average of 90.
  • Members in grades 10-12 must also complete a required number of volunteer service hours in order to maintain membership.

Cross Country News
The Bulldog competed at the Mid-State Classic Invitational in Perry, Ga.  The boys team placed 2nd out of 14 schools.  The boys team was led by Lawson Weldon with 6th place finish at a time of 17:18.  Following close behind were Matt Miller, Nathan DeVane, and TJ Williams.  The Lady dogs placed 6th out of 12 teams. The girls were led by Kayley Dale who finished 17th out of 144 runners.  The bulldogs next competition will be August 30th at Upson Lee High School. 
Boys Varsity Team

Pictured here are the Varsity Teams and the Middle School Teams. Both Middle School Teams placed 2nd.
Football News

The Bulldogs opened the season in the Corky Kell Classic at Mercer University.  MP lost to Houston County 26-14.  Zach Harvey rushed for 204 yards and a touchdown.  The MP offense produced a 318-yard rushing effort as a team. The Bulldogs will travel to play Jackson on Friday at 7:30.

Softball News
The Lady Bulldogs lost to Pike County. Kiambra Zellner went 2-2  with an RBI and Tiella Banks went 1-1 at the plate.  

Mary Persons softball team traveled to East Coweta on Saturday, falling to East Coweta 4-6 in the first game. The Lady Bulldogs played well, but lost the lead in the 5th inning. Allyssah Mullis went 2-3 and Alexis Passmore and Kiambra Zellner went 1-2 at the plate. In the second game the Bulldogs beat Effingham County 6-1. Emsley Smith pitched the entire game only allowing 3 hits. The whole team contributed on offense and Allyssah Mullis hit a 3 run homer in the 7th inning. 

The Lady Bulldogs beat GMC 5-0 at home. Megan Bell pitched a 2 hitter with 10 strikeouts. Offense was lead by Allyssah Mullis, Lori Smith, and Tiella Banks going 2-3 at the plate. Tiella Banks hit a two run homer in the 4th. The dogs are now 3-4 in the season. Next game is a region match up against West Laurens on Tuesday, August 30th, at home.
