Access Professional Learning in Atlanta
On Wednesday, July 27th, 4/6 members of the MP Access Dream Team went to Atlanta for voluntary professional learning. Mr. Jenkins, Mrs. Chafin, Mrs. Dyke, and Mrs. Holloway toured the AMAC building on Georgia Tech's campus which houses Tools For Life as well as various other assistive technology entities. The team was able to learn about and "play" with a variety of assistive technology tools that make life accessible for individuals with disabilities. Additionally, they learned about resources available throughout the state including Braille resources, lines of credit for assistive technology, resources for acquiring refurbished wheelchairs, and much more! Afterwards, the team traveled to Special Kneads & Treats in Lawrenceville, a bakery that employs 13+ individuals with disabilities. They were able to talk with the founders and owners of the bakery, who started the bakery as a way to keep their son with disabilities engaged after he graduated high school. Special Kneads & Treats also sells artwork, dog treats, and dolls - all created by artisans with disabilities. The trip was both informative and inspirational!
