Energy Pathway Students Tour
Smarr Energy Facility

1st Year - Energy Pathway students recently visited the Smarr Energy Facility located in nearby Smarr.
During our visit we got a chance to see a gas-fired power plant up close.  This power facility is a "peaker plant" meaning it only runs during times of peak demand on the system.  The power plant was actually up and running when we visited.  In the photo are 1st Year - Energy Pathway students and an Oglethorpe Power Corporation engineer who works at the plant.  We are standing in one of the work rooms they have on site.   Mr. Meacham would like to give a big CHAMP shout-out to all of the Energy & Power employees who shared their time and knowledge with us during our visit.

Soccer News
The Girls team lost last week to West Laurens 3-0. We will need to win this week's games against Perry and Howard for a playoff spot.

Boys Soccer knocks off Veterans
The Mary Persons boys soccer team has won six straight games following last Fridays 1-0 triumph at Veterans. The Bulldogs (12-2-1) used a first-half goal by junior Shane King to secure the victory on a sloppy, rainy night in Kathleen, Ga. King's free kick from outside the penalty box found the lower corner of the goal to give MP a lead it would not relinquish. Goalkeeper Brock Hulsey was outstanding in net for MP, making several crucial saves to secure the win. Senior Trea Atkins led the defense to its seventh shutout of the season. The win capped off a week in which the Bulldogs won three straight region games. Last Tuesday they knocked off Baldwin, 10-0. They then followed that up with a 3-0 road victory at West Laurens. MP now sits alone in second place in the region standings. The Bulldogs have a shot at winning the region title if they can win their last two games and get some help.

Tennis News
The MP Tennis Team traveled to John Drew Smith Tennis Center last Thursday, 4/14, to participate in the region tournament. The girls ended as the number 3 seed in Region 2-AAAA and will travel to Burke County on Tuesday, 4/19, for the first round of state playoffs. Winners included Anna Wilks for singles, and the teams of Cadi Seitz/Abby Rigole and Megan Beall/Stephanie Pierotti. The boys ended as the number 4 seed and will travel to Wayne County for their first state playoff round on Wednesday, 4/20. Winners during the region included David Johns, Conner Johnson, and Harrison Fry for singles.
Track News
The Bulldog track teams competed at the home meet yesterday, April 15th, against Northeast Macon and Monticello High School.  Both girls and boys teams finished 1st place with a number of outstanding performances contributing to the win. In the field events the 1st place finishers were: Niesha Lyons in the shot put, Lindsey Smith in the Discus Throw, and Olympia High in the triple jump.  Malik Herring in the shot put and discus throw,  Ty Danielly in the long jump, and Dee Gaines in the High Jump. The 1st places in the running events for the boy's team were: Lawson Welson in the 1 mile run, Kendrell Taylor in the 100 meter dash, Jamari Jackson for the 200 meter dash, and the 4 by 4 relay team.  Girl's 1st place finishers were:  Morgan Haney in the 1 mile, Carrie Neal in the 800 meter, Amecia Pennamon in the 100 meter and 200 meter, Olympia High in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles, and both 4 by 100 and 4 by 400 meter relays.  Congratulations Bulldogs!  The Bulldog track and field teams will be competing for the 2AAAA Region Championship on April 19th through 21st in hopes of continuing their season to the Sectional meet.  The Region Meet will be held in Warner Robins, GA.
