 The Art Club is hosting an Empty Bowls Project dinner the evening of Thursday, March 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 in the cafeteria. Tickets are $10.00, and include a light meal and a ceramic bowl, hand-made by our art students. All proceeds will be donated to Monroe County Backpack Buddies to help fight hunger in our community. Please see Mrs.Trevitt in room 224 for tickets.

All students who are interested in taking Honors, Accelerated, MOWR, and/or Advanced Placement (AP®), courses during the 2016-2017 school year in 9th - 12th grade must fill out and turn in this signed acknowledgement form with their 2016-17 registration sheet. Choosing the Best Speaker
Jonathan Adams, Assistant DA of the Macon Judicial Circuit, spoke with 10th grade students last week. He spoke about domestic violence, dating violence, sex trafficking, sexting and the laws pertaining to these and other related topics.

 GaDOE Parent Survey The Georgia Department of Education Parent Survey contains 24 questions. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphones or tablet. For parents that do not have access to the Internet, please visit our schools to complete the Georgia Parent Survey. We encourage all parents to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey because the data will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. Individual data results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online.

Counselors Host College Goal Day
The counselors recently hosted College Goal Day. Local Financial Aid experts from local colleges were on hand to assist students and parents with completing their FAFSA (Federal Application for Federal Student Aid) and GSFAPPS (Georgia Student Financial Aid Application) Application for HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarships.

Attention Seniors & Parents
If you have been accepted to a college, please bring in a copy of your acceptance letter or email to us so we can include your picture on the college acceptance bulletin board.
HOPE GPA progress reports for seniors, updated with fall semester grades, are available in your account at GACollege411.org. If you have created an account but forgotten your login, the Counseling Office can help you retrieve it. Also, be sure that your entire legal name and social security number are entered into your student profile. If this information is incorrect it could delay the process of your HOPE or Zell Miller Scholarship after graduation.

AP Studio Art students recently created Foreshortened Figures. Forshortening is defined by Merrian-Webster as "to cause (something) to appear shorter than it really is because it is in the foreground of a drawing, painting, etc."

The Mary Persons Technology Student Association students are off to a great start designing their VEX robot for state competition! This robotics kit came from a grant from the Operation RoundUp Foundation through Central Ga EMC.

 Basketball News
The Boys Varsity Basketball Team placed 2nd in the Region Tournament, giving them the Region Runner-Up title, and allowing them to play in the first round of the State Tournament last week. They beat Burke County 73-67 and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen which was held this past Saturday at Grady High School. They ended the season losing 75-41 to Grady and finished with a 17-13 record for the season.

 Soccer News
The Girls Varsity Soccer team opened region play with a 1-0 win against West Laurens Thursday night at Billy Lancaster Field.. Maiah Wiley provided the assist to Emily Barnes who put a well placed shot over the goalkeepers' head and into the net. Lori Smith recorded her third consecutive shutout of the season with help from a strong back line consisting of Sharon Kinsella, Summer Sanders, Sulli Giles, and Kiera Johnson. The Lady Bulldogs are 3-0.
The Boys Varsity Soccer team continued its strong start to the season thanks to a 3-0 win over West Laurens last Thursday. The Bulldogs (3-0, 2-0 in Region 2-AAAA) got a pair of first-half goals from Alex Rivera and another by Shane King to take control of the match early. They then cruised the rest of the way. James Davis and Gabe Phillip assisted Rivera off of corner kicks, while freshman Zack Potts came off the bench and picked out King nicely from the wing for a 25-yard blast that beat the West Laurens goalkeeper. Sophomore Brock Hulsey earned his third straight shutout to start the season in goal for MP. Next up, the Bulldogs host Central-Macon on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., followed by an important region trip to Upson-Lee.

 Tennis News
The Tennis Team hosted Jackson last week and MP emerged victorious. The MP Boys Team earned a hard fought 3-2 match victory to improve their record to 1-1 on the season. The team was represented by Harrison Frye, Conner Johnson, and Jake Johnston for singles, and Liam Spence/Jordan Carr, and Cole Duncan/Tucker Melton for doubles. The MP Girls Team took a commanding 5-0 match victory to improve their record to 2-0 on the season. They were represented by Ellie Cottle, Anna Wilks, and Caroline Pierotti for singles, and Abby Rigole/Cadi Seitz and Megan Beall/Stephanie Pierotti for doubles.
The Tennis Team also hosted Jasper County last week at the friendly confines of the MP Athletic Complex. The girls' team took another 5-0 win to remain undefeated on the young season. Ellie Cottle, Anna Wilks, and Caroline Pierotti each took care of their opponents in 2 sets, while the teams of Cadi Seitz/Abby Rigole and Megan Beall/Madeline Copeland also won their matches in straight sets. The boys team went 1-4 in match play, bringing their overall record to 1-2. The lone win came from the team of Liam Spence and Jordan Carr. The other matches featured lots of hustle and determination. Other participants included Harrison Frye, Conner Johnson, Jake Johnston, and the team of Timothy Clements and Seth Smith. Come out and support the team!
