MP to be Featured Team in Corky Kell Classic

Mary Persons High School will be one of the featured football teams playing in the prestigious Corky Kell Classic.  For the first time in the Corky Kell Classic's 25 year history, two of the games will be played in Macon at Mercer University's Five Star Stadium.  

MP will take on Houston County on Thursday, August 18 at 5:45 p.m.  at Mercer University Five Star Stadium in the first of two games that evening with Lee County and Jones County taking the field afterwards.

The MP vs. Houston County game  and the Jones vs. Lee game will be broadcast live on FOX SportsSouth as well as Atlanta's WZGC 92.9 The Game radio station.   Look for more information in the coming months to get your tickets to be a part of this historic event!
Choosing the Best

Each day this past week we had Choosing the Best speakers speak with our Senior English classes.  The speakers included Karen Allen, Sol & Janice Greear, Dean Conkle, Katrina & Kevin Smith, and Will & Cassie Davis. Thanks to all of the speakers for taking their valuable time to spend the day at MP, and to Mrs. Movene Futch for coordinating the speakers for the week.  
Help Send ACCESS Students to Prom
The ACCESS department is selling "Bulldog Proud" shirts 
now through February 11th
The purchase of each shirt will help send 
ACCESS students to prom this year.

ACCESS Students Learn the Importance of Directions

Ms. Judy Gibson showed Mrs. Chafin's students how to make homemade 
thin mint cookies. She provided the ingredients, gave instructions on 
how to make the cookies, and then demonstrated the steps. 
The cookies were delicious and simple to make! 
Economics Students Pay Their Bills
In economics class students payed their bills for the month of January 
and drew pictures of trade terms they have learned.
The cost is currently $65, 
and will be increasing soon.
GaDOE Parent Survey
The Georgia Department of Education Parent Survey  contains 24 questions. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphones or tablet.  For parents that do not have access to the Internet, please visit our schools to complete the Georgia Parent Survey.  We encourage all parents to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey because the data will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis.  Individual data results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online.  
Girls Who Code
is a national non-profit organization 
dedicated to closing the gender gap in technology.  They will be offering a FREE Summer Immersion Program this summer for girls who will be going into the 11th or 12th grade.  Click here to sign up for this FREE 7-week introduction to computer science. Apply beginning January 19, 2016. The deadline to register is March 1, 2016. (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is now available. Seniors who are planning to go to a technical, 2-year, or 4- year college MUST complete a FAFSA.

Chorus News
Students Selected for All-State Reading Chorus

Rececca Clements and Lindsey Kinsella were selected for All-State Reading Chorus by rigorous audition. This choir was made up of 100 of the finest music readers in the state. This is the first year we have had any students from Mary Persons to represent our school. They Sight Read a concert for of all the GMEA teachers at the State Conference in Athens.

Krispy Kreme doughnuts and certificates will be available for pick up on Wednesday, February 3 at 3:00 p.m.

FBLA State Online Testing will be held after school in Room 226 on Wednesday, February 10.

FBLA will be selling Blizzards after school on Thursdays.  Support FBLA and help them raise money for State Competition.

Sims Signs with Gordon College

Shelby Sims has signed a letter of intent to play softball with the Gordon College. She signed during a special signing day at the college on January 16th.  She is pictured here with her parents Laura and Thomas Sims, her sister Abby, and her grandparents Nolia and HC Seabolt.  Coach Ronnie Shipman, who promoted her to Gordon, and her travel ball coaches were able to attend the event.  Shelby was recruited by both Gordon State Head Coaches, Ally Hatterman and Ken Deyton as well as the assistant coach, Freddie Glass to play middle infield and/or centerfield for the Gordon Highlanders in 2016.

Congratulations to Hunter Bass, Brett Brewer, Jaquavious Sims, and Jontrelle Gaines for placing at the Area 2 AAAA Traditional Tournament. They will move on to compete at the Sectional Tournament on February 5th & 6th, at Gilmer County High School.
