Pictures are needed for a special souvenir edition of the 
football program for playoff games. This program will feature 
a synopsis of each of the regular season games.  Please share 
any pictures you may have from any of the football games. 
 Pictures may be of fans, cheerleaders, football players, and the band. Please send your pictures  to mpcheerdawgs@gmail.com.

Special Olympics Banquet Held
MP Award Recipients:  Colby Young and Mrs. Elizabeth Holloway
Last Tuesday, October 27, the Area 7 Special Olympics Banquet was held and hosted by Geico. Monroe County Special Olympics had 4 people who were recognized for their participation and service.  Two of the recipients were from Mary Persons: Volunteer of the Year - Colby Young, and Coach of the Year - Elizabeth Holloway.  Colby's service to Monroe County Special Olympians has been exceptional. He participates in a Unified Team Sports class and has volunteered for 2 years at the county level Track and Field Event.  The other Monroe County award recipients were: Male Athlete of the Year - Hamilton Darden, and Female Athlete of the Year - Jackie Lindsey.  Congratulations to these award recipients.

They were selected out of 290 eligible students. 
Ericka and Terrell are the winners of year-long athletic passes.
Construction Students Build Display Board
MP Construction students designed and built the new CHAMP Display Board in the Commons Area.  The display board will be used to feature those who are recognized for CHAMP-Like behavior.

Calculator Payments Due
Graphing calculator payments are 
due by November 6th.  Payments should 
be made to Dr. Williams (on the Main 
Campus) or Mr. Bernard (on the Freshman Campus). Minimum payment is $25.
GaDOE Parent Survey
The Georgia Department of Education Parent Survey  contains 24 questions. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphones or tablet.  For parents that do not have access to the Internet, please visit our schools to complete the Georgia Parent Survey.  We encourage all parents to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey because the data will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis.  Individual data results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online.

October Teacher of the Month
Peacock Awarded Grant

Mrs. Peacock was awarded a Bright Ideas grant from Southern Rivers EMC to help her classes get started with Google Classroom.  The grant helped purchase several Chromebooks that will be used in class every day to access Google Classroom, and to use internet resources to help enhance their economics education.  Also, the computers will be available for students to use after school for college applications and to work on projects.

 
 Pizza Promotion During Lunch
To help promote the pizzas in the lunchroom, students were presented prizes if they had a particular marking on the bottom of their
pizza box.  Some of the winners were

With more than 300 homeless students in the Monroe County School system, many lacking basic necessities such as food, clothing, hygiene

Counselors News
Apply to College Day will be held at MPHS on Thursday, 
November 12 from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. College admissions counselors will be on site to help students who have not applied to college yet.  Students will need to sign up for a time slot during an elective period.

ASVAB
Students interested in the military must take the ASVAB exam given at MPHS on November 19. We will have sign-up forms in the counselor's office closer to the test date.  Please click here to register by November 6th.  Students must register using their school email accounts!  All branches of the military require this test.
College Application Fees Waived
The following colleges have agreed to waive their application fees.  Apply via your gacollege411 account.
  • Georgia Gwinnett College will waive its $20 application fee, from Oct. 23 to Nov. 23. Apply directly at www.ggc.edu.
  • Savannah State College will waive its $20 application fee.  Apply via your gacollege411 account.
  • Albany State University will waive its $20 application fee for the month of November.

AP Exam Payments
Students may start making payments for their AP exams beginning November 6.  The cost of each exam is $93.  

The fee schedule is:
                                  Nov. 6              Feb. 5
                                  Dec. 4              Mar. 4
                                  Jan. 8               

This will allow student to make 5 low payments (4 low payments of $20.00 + 5th payment of $13.00).  
Parents may also pay for AP exams online via their MySchoolBucks account.  All major credit cards are accepted and there will be an additional $3 charge.  Please see Ms. Burston if you have any questions.

Best Buddies News
On Wednesday, October 28 Best Buddies members gathered to tie dye shirts. Approximately 50 members were lead by professional tie-dye creator Boo McKelvey in creating their own unique shirt that will be screen printed with the Best Buddies logo. This activity is one of many hosted by Best Buddies to provide opportunities for friendships to be formed between individuals with and without disabilities.
Best Buddies appreciates Fundraising Chairperson Anna Helen McKelvey and her parents, Boo and Rebecca McKelvey, for organizing and sponsoring this event!

Cross Country News
The boys and girls Cross Country teams competed in the Region Meet yesterday.  Both teams placed 3rd in the region and have qualified to compete in the Cross Country State Meet. Morgan Haney led the girls team by placing 4th in the Region.  Others scoring for the girls were Kayley Dale, Georgia Wilcox, Carrie Neal, and Payton Poland.  Lawson Weldon led the boys team with a 7th place finish. Others scoring for the boys were Nathan Devane, Matt Miller, T.J.Williams, and Jakob Cox.  The State Championships will be on November 7th in Carrolton, Ga.  Congratulations Bulldogs!
Football News
The bulldogs defeated Baldwin 37-3.  Zach Harvey, Quen Wilson, and Jaquavious Sims each had 12 carries and at least one touchdown rushing for Mary Persons.  Dre Evans and Tre Howard led the defense.  The Bulldogs travel to West Laurens Friday.  Game time is 7:30.

Soccer tryout meeting to be held November 12
A meeting for anyone interested in trying out for the MPHS soccer teams will be held Thursday, November 12 at 3:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Required information needed for tryouts will be provided at the meeting.
