items, school supplies, the goal of this activity is to make a positive difference in these students' education and life.  THANK YOU!!

Work Permits
As of July 1, 2015, students ages 16 and older are no longer required to obtain a work permit. Students ages 15 and under are still required to obtain a work permit.

Counselors News
PROBE College Fair will be held Tuesday, October 13 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Middle Georgia State College.  This is a great opportunity for students and their parents to visit with college and military recruiters from all over the state and nation.

Senior Night and College Fair
Make plans to attend on Tuesday, November 10 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. College recruiters will be here as well as the GSFC representative to discuss updates with the HOPE/Zell Miller Scholarship and Grants.

Apply to College Day will be held at MPHS on Thursday, November 12 from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. College admissions counselors will be on site to help students who have not applied to college yet.  Students will need to sign up for a time slot during an elective period.

ASVAB
Students interested in the military must take the ASVAB exam given at MPHS on November 19. Registration opportunities will be forthcoming closer to the test date.
ACT/SAT News
If you have NOT taken a college entrance exam, please register for the SAT or ACT ASAP! It is mandatory for admission into all two and four-year colleges in Georgia. You can register LATE for the October 24 ACT and have until October 9 to register for the November 7
SAT. 


FVSU will host several FREE SAT/ACT workshops on their Warner Robins Campus. A free test prep book and materials are provided. Click here for the flyer and registration information. 

The PSAT will be given on Wednesday, October 14, 2015.  
All sophomores will be taking the exam free of charge.  All juniors can take this exam for $15. Juniors are the only students who can compete for the National Merit Scholarship by taking the PSAT.

FFA News
The Mary Persons FFA will be having it's annual Fall Plant Sale on Thursday October 8th at the High School Greenhouse.  The plant sale will start at 7 am and run until 5 pm.  We have flats of pansies, violas, snapdragons, flowering kale, and ornamental cabbage.  These will sale for $8 per flat or $2 per 6/pak.  We also have 4"pots of snapdragons and pansies that will be for sale for $1 each.  Potted Chrysnathemums:  8" pots for $8 and 10" pots for $12.  Assorted varieties of houseplants for $3 each.
Middle Georgia Market Lamb Show 
The Middle Georgia Market Lamb Show was held at the Mary Persons FFA School Farm on Saturday September 20th. Students from Butts, Lamar, Monroe, Pike, Spalding, and Upson counties were invited to participate in the show. The judge for the show was FFA Advisor and Agricultural Educator at Brooks County High School, Matt Howell.  

The show started with showmanship.  This is where students are awarded for who presents their lamb in the ring the best.  In Senior Showmanship, which consisted of grades 10 through 12th. Mary Persons FFA members: Courtney Stovall was the winner, TulaBlue Waldrep placed 2nd, Rebekah Simpson placed 3rd, Abby Sims placed 4th, and Chasta Williams placed 5th.

Following showmanship, three weight classes of lambs were shown.  In weight classes, the judge is selecting the lambs that best fit the industry demands for market lambs today.  Students who placed in weight classes from Mary Persons were:  In class 1: TulaBlue Waldrep was the winner, Courtney Stovall placed 3rd, and Chasta Williams placed 5th.  In Class 2:  TulaBlue Waldrep placed 2nd,  and Abby Sims placed 5th.  In class 3:  Rebekah Simpson placed 2nd and TulaBlue Waldrep placed 3rd.

After the three weight classes, the class winners from each class came back into the ring so the judge could select the Grand Champion and Reserve Champion lambs.  TulaBlue Waldrep was selected for Reserve Champion.  

The Monroe County 4-H, the Mary Persons FFA Chapter, and the Mary Persons FFA Alumni would like to thank all of the generous sponsors for helping make this the 10th annual Middle Georgia Market Lamb Show a success.

MP beat Jackson 8-0 behind Harlee Stewart's pitching. Offense was a combined effort. After the game we celebrated our hard working seniors. Congratulations to Hannah Swearingen, Sydney Thompson, Autumn Justice, Harlee Stewart, and Shelby Sims. 

The Lady Bulldogs beat West Laurens 3-0. Megan Bell pitched the entire game only allowing 3 hits. Defense was a team effort tonight. The Lady Bulldogs are 17-9 in the season and 10-2 in region. Next game is to be determined based on region standings. 

Volleyball News

MP volleyball will host all area teams in the annual 
Area Tournament on Saturday, October 10th
Games start at 9 am. We hope to see you there!
