HES Tiger Sprouts Tend Their Growing Garden


Samuel E. Hubbard Elementary's Hydroponics Garden continues to grow.  Students are making trellis stands for their cucumber plants.  These students are under the direction of Rebecca Wachtel.

BackPack Buddies Program $1000 Donation
Lamarcus Davis  presented a check for $1000.00 to Monroe County Schools for the BackPack Buddies Program on behalf of the Deacon Board, Pastor McArthur Childs, and Mt. Gilead Baptist Church of Forsyth.   Mr. Davis is a former MPHS Bulldog and MP graduate who said the Pastor and members feel it is very important to give back to the community and try to make a difference in the lives of the children in Monroe Schools.   Mr. Davis and his wife, Angel, have two children attending K. B. Sutton Elementary.  Mr. Davis is pictured with Family Services Coordinator Gwen Byrd and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Mike Hickman.
Georgia's First Lady Reads to KBS PreK Students
KBSutton Elementary PreK students had a special visitor this week. Georgia's First Lady, Mrs. Sandra Deal, read a story to the students.

MP Spanish Honor Society Members Visit Elementary Schools
Mary Persons High School Spanish Honor Society students, under the direction of Ms. Kristy Slaughter, visited the elementary schools this week to teach the students the Spanish alphabet, Spanish vocabulary, and several Spanish games.

KBS PreK Students Visit Road Department
KBSutton Elementary School PreK students toured the Monroe County Road Department and picked up their own street sign.

MPHS Students Rally for Respect
Mary Persons High School recently held a Respect Rally to remind all to respect and care for their fellow students.

Important Information about Pre-AP 
 
Pre-AP Parent Meeting Opportunity:
  • March 31th (Bank Stephens Campus Gym @ 5:00p)
APPLICATIONS
  • Applications will be dispersed at Parent Meetings and will be sent home with students on March 29th at school. 
  • Applications will be due on Friday, April 3rd.

Entrance Exam

  • All students must take an entrance exam in the area in which a Pre-AP class is desired.  (Exception:  Gifted students are not required to take an exam for a Pre-AP class corresponding with his/her area of giftedness.)
  • The dates of the exams are listed below.  A student must sign up for an exam at least 24 hours prior to the exam. Exams will be held at both the Banks Stephens and William Hubbard Campuses and start promptly at the times listed (To ensure that you are allowed to take the exam, please make sure you arrive at least 15 minutes prior to exam time.)  A student may space out the exams and take them on multiple days (ie: One exam per day) or may choose to take up to two in one session.  Please contact the school in which you will be testing to register. Monroe County Schools Recognized for Technology Integration Efforts
Monroe County Schools' use of innovative technologies such as 1:1 laptop initiatives, STEM curriculum and flipped classroom instruction earned the system and its schools a top spot in the Center for Digital Education's and National School Boards Association's 10th anniversary Digital School Districts Survey.  In the category of Mid-sized school districts serving 3000-12000 students, Monroe County Schools ranked 8th in the nation.
