MP Teacher Spotlight
This week's spotlight is on Coach Lamon McElhaney. Coach McElhaney graduated from Georgia State University where he received his bachelors degree in Health & P.E. He earned his masters degree in Health & P.E. from Albany State University. He has been teaching for 3 years. He said "the positive impact I can make on a child's life" inspired him to be a teacher. The best part about his job is "no two days are the same." One of his favorite memories from his high school years was "winning the region championship in basketball in 2005."
In his spare time, Coach McElhaney enjoys spending time with his family, exercise, and sports. When asked about an interesting place that he has traveled he said "I have been to New Y ork City, but I wish to travel to Australia." He enjoys reading books by Dave Ramsey. His favorite sport is basketball, and his favorite team is the Atlanta Hawks. His role model is his father, Larry McElhaney. His "bucket list" includes visiting Australia, Fiji, and Hawaii. He also wanted to add: "I am a neat freak. Things have to be in order or my skin crawls." Coach McElhaney and his wife are expecting their first child in April.

Congratulations to the Girls Varsity team for winning the Bulldog Cup Championship this past weekend. They defeated Mt. De Sales 2-1 in a penalty kick shootout. Emily Barnes and Rachel Pope scored for MP while Toni Kiwit recorded a shutout and saved 4 of 5 penalty kicks. The Lady Bulldogs remain undefeated at 6-0. Bulldogs hit the road in region play this week The Boys Soccer team has a pair of crucial road games looming this week as region play begins to really heat up. The Bulldogs (4-2, 1-0 in 2-AAAA) travel to defending region champion Perry, followed by a trip to undefeated Upson Lee on Friday night. Over the past week, MP easily defeated Northside-WR, 3-0, and Tattnall, 8-0, in group play as hosts of the annual Bulldog Cup. The victories advanced the team to the championship game of the event where they faced highly-touted, undefeated and No. 4-ranked Spalding. The Bulldogs nearly pulled off the upset in that contest, narrowly falling 1-0 in an extremely tight game. Goalkeeper Harper James came up big for MP with 7 saves, including a penalty kick stop. Jacob Berkebile and James Davis anchored a strong defense for MP, but an unfortunate deflection off a cross ended up in the MP goal and allowed the 2014 state semifinalists to escape with a close win.
