Congratulations System Spelling Bee Winners
Congratulations to this year's system spelling bee winner, Luke McBride.  He is a fourth grader at TGScott Elementary School.  System runner-up is Lawson Harris. He is a fourth grader at KBSutton Elementary School.  Best wishes to both spellers as they compete at the upcoming regional spelling bee. Ben Amerson of Five Star Travel Travel Service was recognized by the Monroe County Board of Education as a "Friend of Education."  Ben Amerson of Five Star Travel. Mr. Amerson is a graduate of Mary Persons and has been in the travel business for 25 years. He has been working with the Monroe County School System for the past 14 years providing educational trips for our students. Mr. Amerson recently donated $1,000 to each elementary school. The schools combined the money to purchase chrome books for the Project Soar program.

The Monroe County Board of Education recognized Barnes & Noble at the The Shoppes at River Crossing.  Cindy Daniel, Community Relations Manager, accepted on behalf of the store.  Barnes & Noble has provided fundraising opportunities to our schools as well as opportunities for students to perform and share their artwork at the Macon store.  In addition, Barnes and Noble has provided merchandise and books to students of Monroe County Schools. Teachers of the Year To Be Honored at April Board of Education Meeting
Each Teacher of the Year will be recognized at the April Board of Education Meeting.  The meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 14 in the Central Office Auditorium.

MCMS Represents at Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl
Pictured at center is Katie Thomason, a sixth grader at Monroe County Middle School.  Last week, she and fellow sixth graders participated at the regional competition of the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl.  She is pictured with (left) MCMS Assistant Principal Pat Hightower and MCMS Instructional Coach Sherondah Strode. 
The Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl is a statewide competition for elementary through high school students. The students read from a selection of 20 books that have been nominated for the Georgia or Peach Book Award each year. Teams then meet for a quiz bowl type competition, complete with Jeopardy style buzzers, at local, then regional, and finally at a state level competition.
Teacher Leaders Present to System Leaders
Teacher leaders shared great presentations with system leaders this past week.  Pictured above are members of GLISI Cohort 40 and Instructional Coaches who presented on student engagement.  At left is Christina Barfield of Monroe County Middle School.  Mrs. Barfield and MCMS Principal Dr. Efrem Yarber shared information on the Monroe County Middle School Mentoring Program.
