180 Degree Award Winners
Congratulations Tymeshia Lyons, Brandon Reese, Gage Harbin, Drake Navarro, and Ashley Altherr (insert, pictured with Mrs. Burston and Mr. Finch)!!  These students have turned their academic and behavior around - a full 180 degrees during Fall Semester.

2nd 9 Weeks CHAMP Reward Days 

Our 2nd Nine Weeks CHAMP Rewards Days will be held February 9th-12th for each grade level.   In order to be eligible to attend, students must have had zero referrals, zero tardies to school, zero tardies to class, and no more than 14 class period absences for the 2nd Nine Weeks.   Congratulations to all eligible students!

Credit Recovery

MP will be offering two eight week sessions of credit recovery this semester for students who have previously failed an academic core course.  The first session has already begun but students may sign up late as long as forms are turned in by Friday, January 23rd.  A second credit recovery session will start on March 16th if students miss Friday's deadline.  Students will be able to earn a unit for each class. Students must complete all course work with a 70% or better in the assigned session in order to receive credit.  Students must pay $50.00 for each unit class.  Please return registration forms to the Graduation Coach, Mrs. McLuen. MP Teacher Spotlight
This week's spotlight is on Dr. Sarah Williams. Dr. Williams received her bachelors in Mathematics from Mercer University, her masters in Instructional Technology from Georgia College and State University, and her doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Mercer University.  She is in her 9th year of teaching. When asked what/who inspired her to become a teacher, she said "I firmly believe teaching is a calling from birth.  When asked what she enjoys most about her job, she said "There's never a boring moment."  
Dr. Williams' hobbies include spending time with her husband, family, friends, and her dogs.  She also enjoys singing.  When asked who her favorite role model is, she said "Mrs. Barber - I want to be just like her when I grow up."  Currently her favorite book series is Lee Child's Jack Reacher series.  Interesting places that she has traveled include the rainforest and the coast of Belize. Her favorite sports & teams are "Mercer football, Georgia Tech football, Braves baseball, and all things MP." When asked what is on her "bucket list", she said she would like to "run the Disney Marathon, spend 2-3 weeks in Europe, and own a Range Rover."

Counselors' Corner
Seniors:  Have You Been Accepted Yet?

We are excited as many seniors have already been accepted into various colleges. We showcase our seniors and their college of choice on a Wall of Fame bulletin board in front of the office. If your child has been accepted and committed to a college, please have them bring a copy of the acceptance letter to the counselors' office so we can verify and post them on our Wall of Fame.

The 2015 FAFSA application is now live and available at The IRS data retrieval tool will not be available until February 2, 2015. All students must complete this application and parental tax information must be entered or retrieved.

Senior Scholarships Available Online
There are lots of scholarships that have recently
been added to our school's website. 
AP Exam Fees Deadline

March 6, 2014 is the deadline to pay for AP Exam Fees.  The cost is $93. Please see Ms Burston if you have questions.

  Academic Team News
The MPHS Academic Team traveled to Valdosta High School on Saturday, January 10, 2015, to compete in the Georgia Academic Team Association Winter meet. A Varsity and a Junior Varsity team competed and both did very well. The JV Team ended up winning the 3rd place trophy for its division. Congratulations!
Best Buddies News

Baseball News

The Bulldogs Baseball program was awarded the 2014 Georgia Dugout Club AAAA State Field of the Year at the recent statewide baseball convention in Atlanta. This award honors the top programs and facilities in the state that have worked diligently and enhanced their facilities from year to year. It also recognizes the hardwork and efforts that the coaches, players, and the community put toward athletics. The Bulldogs were also honored with the AAA Field of the Year in 2009.


The season opens this week, as practice begins on January 20th and the Bulldogs open the season at Taylor Co. on February 17th.    

Basketball News

Congratulations to the Junior Varsity Boys Basketball Team for their 65-35 victory over Lamar. Their record is now 9-3 for the season. The varsity played another close game but was defeated by Lamar 49-42. Their record is now 8-9 for the season.


The Lady Dogs won 2 games this past weekend. Friday night they defeated Perry and Saturday night they defeated Lamar Co.

Make plans to attend Senior Night this Friday as the Bulldogs play Howard. The JV Boys play at 4:15, Varsity Girls at 6:00, followed by the Varsity Boys at 7:30.

Media Center Message

Help support Mary Persons High school by linking your Ingles Advantage Card to our school.  When you make purchases using your Ingles Advantage Card, Ingles will give back to the school a portion of those sales. The portion can be used by the school to purchase computers and school supplies.
