MP Teacher Spotlight
This week's spotlight is on Mr. Charles Hernandez. Mr. Hernandez received his bachelors in Vocal Performance and masters in Music Education, and his specialist in Secondary Education from Georgia College and State University. He has been teaching for 18 years. His role model is his music teacher, Ms.Barbara Dean, and his former music teachers inspired him to become a teacher. He also mentions that he did not choose education but education chose him, that it was literally a calling.
He had just graduated from college and two weeks later received a phone call and was asked to start a choir at Dodge County High School. He said that "teaching is my passion and I very much enjoy the relationships built through music."
When asked about his favorite memories of his own high school days, he said "being in Chorus and singing Handel's Messiah." When asked what he likes most about his job he said "I love to inspire others to love music and to achieve more than they thought they could."
He has traveled extensively and has been to only 6 of the 7 continents. He said he would like to be remembered for "facilitating an outlet of of expression and self-discovery and for holding extraordinarily high expectations that yield uncommon results."

Bulldog Blessings
 | Several years ago, a local family became aware of the number of homeless students in Monroe County which prompted them to begin the Adopt-A-Kid for Christmas program. Mrs. Angela Bullock, along with her son Brock and husband Clint, felt compelled to continue this assistance this year. The family solicited sponsors from all over the community. A total of 84 students will receive Christmas gifts thanks to their organization and the community's generosity. Also, Zachry Care Team continued their support of MPHS students this Christmas and sponsored 8 different students and their families. |
