MP Teacher Spotlight

This week's spotlight is on Mrs. Sara Gassett. Mrs. Gassett received her bachelors and her masters degrees from Auburn University. She has been a teacher for 32 years, and was inspired to become a teacher by her mother who was also an English teacher.  She actually comes from a long line of teachers: mother, aunt, grandmother, sister and numerous cousins. Family get-togethers are fun with the "teachers" making everyone follow directions. Besides teaching, she has also been an author, a TV weather girl/sports newscaster, and a cookbook author. When asked what she likes most about her job she said "the interaction with students - they keep me young."  Her favorite memory from high school is being the first person from her high school to go to All State Chorus.  According to her she "was a music drama geek."

Her hobbies are traveling and reading.  She said it is impossible to name her favorite book, saying that it is "whatever I am reading at the time." Interesting places that she has visited are Italy (her favorite), France, Holland, England, Denmakr, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Costa Rica, Jamacia, the Bahamas, and Puerto Rico.  She would still like to visit Russia and Brazil.  Her favorite sport is college football, "Go Gators!" Items she has on her "bucket list" include travel to Russia, RETIRE, meet Tim Tebow, and run a 5K, "but since I do not run at all this is unlikely to ever happen." |

RescueTime is an app that tracks time spent on email, social media and websites, and identifies top distractions. Students can set goals to make sure they are using their time productively - by studying instead of scanning Twitter, for example - and create alerts to notify them when they've spent too much time playing Candy Crush.   |
