MP Teacher Spotlight
This week's spotlight is on Ms. Pat Busby.
Ms. Busby graduated from Austin Peay State University with a Bachelor of Arts and from Georgia College and State University with a Master of Education.  She has been a teacher for 37 years, and was inspired to become a teacher by her high school English teacher, Mrs. Zuccarello.  Besides education, Ms. Busby has also worked in sales with Estee Lauder and fashion at Dillard's. When asked what she liked most about her job she said "interactions with students and sharing her enthusiasm for reading".  In her spare time she enjoys doing volunteer work, reading, working with flowers, playing with Katie (her dog), and visiting with friends. Ms. Busby's favorite memories from high school include being in the top 10% of each of her classes. She was also a merit scholar, and a representative on Student Council.  She received a full academic scholarship to college.

Ms. Busby has visited Hawaii and would also like to see England and the Bahamas. Her favorite books are any books by Patricia Cornwell about Kay Scarpetta.  Her favorite sport is football and she likes the Falcons.  She performed with a dance and drill team during several Falcons' halftime shows. Princess Diana is her favorite role model. She was once crowned winner in a pageant to raise money for veterans.  She has two sons and two daughters-in-law. Three items on her "bucket list" are to travel to England, France and Italy.
Job Skills Program Gets New Uniforms

The participants of MP's Job Skills Programs recently got new uniforms! Students in this program are earning class credits by learning both to complete tasks at a job site but also general employability skills that fall within the CHAMP framework of positive behavior: being courteous, honorable, accountable, motivated, and prepared. The uniforms help students learn the job skill of being prepared by dressing appropriately for work, especially at businesses where a uniform is required. Currently, students in the Job Skills Program work at the following Forsyth businesses: Ingles, Shoney's, Forsyth Feed & Seed, Dodd's Builder Supply, Monroe County Hospital, Tractor Supply, Monroe County Education, and Mary Persons High School.

Some members of the Job Skills Program are learning to use iPods to enhance their workplace performance. Students are using HoursKeeper, a free app, to clock in and clock out of work each day. The app tracks the amount of time worked and calculates how much money would be earned if the students were paid employees. Further, students are learning to use the iPod's timer to count 10 minute breaks and return to work punctually.

If you would like to learn more or to have members of the Job Skills Program work at your place of business, contact Elizabeth Holloway at Elizabeth.Holloway@monroe.k12.ga.us
