Seniors Get Their Garb for Picture Day
Automotive Service Technician Students Compete at Ford Motor Co.

AST Seniors Sean Henderson and Caleb Turnbow competed at the 2014 Ford Motor Company/AAA Student Auto Skills Challenge State Hands-On Competition in Atlanta. The teams raced to beat the clock to correctly diagnose and repair a deliberately "bugged" 2014 Ford Fiesta SE. The MP team scored the highest along with nine other teams statewide on a written online exam to qualify for the hands-on state competition.

The Ford/AAA Auto Skills competition offers millions of dollars in scholarships and prizes to high school juniors and seniors who want careers as automotive service technicians.

Our local Ford dealership, Trophy Ford and AST instructor, Dwain Evans, helped students practice for the competition by allowing them to use a Ford Fiesta SE. Henderson and Turnbow placed tenth.

Fine Arts News

Art Club members collected student responses to the question

"What is Art?" on post-its during lunch to create this collaborative

mural.  Responses could include definitions and/or doodles.

The post-its were assembled into one work to represent the ever-changing and always debatable idea of what art is, and how

it can mean many things to many people.

Jennifer Scherer-Otto received Honorable Mention in the 2014 Congressional Art Competition sponsored by Austin Scott.  Georgia students grades 9-12 from the 8th Congressional District submitted artwork for the competition, which is in its 32nd year.  Students from the AP Studio Drawing and 2D Design courses sent in work, which was on exhibit April 21-27 in Warner Robins at Rigby's Entertainment Complex.

Boys Soccer Team hosts state playoff Saturday night.

The Mary Persons boys soccer team will host Jonesboro on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the Class AAAA state playoffs. The Bulldogs (10-5-2) finished as region runners-up after a thrilling 1-0 victory at region rival Veterans in the final game of the regular season. Thanks to stellar defensive performances by juniors Jacob Berkebile and Addison Chapman, as well as freshman William Stevick, MP held the Patriots scoreless for regulation and overtime. In penalty kicks, senior goalkeeper Sam Watson came up huge in net. He saved one shot and forced a miss on another as the Bulldogs came away with the 4-2 win to move into second place in the region. Saturday's game will be a tough one though, as the Bulldogs face a Jonesboro squad that returns the majority of its players from a team that advanced to the Elite 8 of the state playoffs last season. Come out and support our MP boys soccer team in prime-time on Saturday night!!!
