A Newsletter Highlighting Monroe County Schools
In the recent legislative session, the governor restored some of the austerity reduction (budget cuts) funds to local school districts.

As a result of the additional funds being added back to the budget for next year, the administration requested the Board add three (3) days back to the calendar for 2014-2015.  The Board approved the request at the April 8, 2014 Board Work Session.

Click here for the revised 2014-2015 calendar.  The calendar has 180 student days and 188 teacher work days.  (Note:  The 2013-14 calendar was for 175 student days and 185 teacher work days.)  For next year, employees who only work on student days will see a five (5) day increase in pay (e.g. School Nutrition Employees and Bus Drivers).  Employees who work student and teacher workdays will see a three (3) day increase in pay for next year. Eleven (11) and twelve (12) month employees will also see an increase of three (3) days of pay.

Common Core is the body of knowledge taught, while the curriculum is composed of those items used to teach the content of the standards.  Monroe County Schools has teachers work through a systematic selection process for curriculum materials, parents are given the opportunity to review the materials selected by instructional staff, and the Monroe County Board of Education reviews and adopts the curriculum materials.  Click here for a document that outlines how Monroe County Schools is addressing the Common Core.

A Reminder to High School Seniors, Educators, and Our Families
Educators and eligible high school seniors must register to vote by April 21, 2014, for the upcoming May 20th primary. This year is the first in state history that most Georgia high school seniors can vote before they graduate from high school.
