Shea Sparks entered the Barnes and Noble writing contest at the request of her English teachers, Sara Gassett and Julie Bazemore. The contest asked students to write a brief essay about their most memorable teacher. Shea's essay won at the local level and now is entered in the regional contest. If it wins at that level it could go forward with the possibility of earning $5000 for the school and Mrs. Julie Carter, Shea's most memorable teacher. On Wednesday April 9, 2014 Shea received a certificate and gifts from the local Barnes and Noble store for her winning essay.

MP Boys Soccer Team Vying for Region Title The MP boys soccer team has a crucial stretch of region games ahead in the coming week. After a home game against West Laurens (yesterday), the squad travels to Veterans on Friday night before returning home for a Senior Night contest against Howard next Tuesday. Wins in both of those games would go a long way toward securing another Class AAAA playoff berth for the program. The defending region champion Bulldogs (8-4-2) are still in the hunt for the region title, but would need help in order to complete that feat. Last Friday, MP fell 2-1 to No. 10 Perry in an exciting game. After falling behind early, the Bulldogs battled back to tie things up in the second half at 1-1. Senior Dennis Miller netted the lone MP goal of the game on a free kick at the top of the penalty box. Perry was able to come away with the winner late, however, handing the Bulldogs their first region loss of the season.
