Counselors' Corner
Seniors:
The 2014 FAFSA (Free Application For Federal Student Aid) will become available January 1, 2014.  Seniors and parents are encouraged to file their taxes early.  The FAFSA must be completed by seniors who are planning to go to any 2-year, 4-year, or Technical College.  They can begin this process at www.fafsa.ed.gov by completing the application online.  Each student and their parents will need to create a PIN, which will be their electronic signature, to complete their FAFSA application.  Click here to access a worksheet to help give you a preview of what questions will be asked.
Juniors:
Mrs. Burston and Mrs. Roller will be conducting individual graduation plan meetings for all Juniors beginning in January.  Appointment times and dates will be distributed during the January MP Period.  Contact your respective counselor if you need an appointment after 5:00 or on Saturday.  Click here for a Junior Year Checklist with excellent tips and information on pertinent Junior year activities and tasks. 
Current Juniors & Seniors who have a keen interest in the sciences and are motivated to get first-hand experiences in either a biomedical wet or dry research laboratory or work in a clinical setting with a medical practitioner can apply for this summer research program. Applications and recommendations must be received by the Institute by Tuesday, February 11, 2014. Accepted students will be notified by the first week of March. The program will begin Monday, June 2, and conclude on Friday, July 11, 2014. Students with the greatest potential and ability will be accepted to participate. All Grades:
The 2014 AP Exams will be administered over two weeks in May: May 5 through 9 and May 12 through 16.  See your AP teachers to find out the dates of each exam.

The Girls Basketball Team has a 11-1 record so far. The Lady Bulldogs finished 2nd in the Union Grove Christmas tournament, and beat Luella in the first round 48-42, and beat Union Grove 48-32 in the second round and lost to Woodland 56-64 in the championship game.

The Boys Basketball Team
currently has a record of 8-4 and winners of four of the last five games. The Bulldogs finished 3rd in the Union Grove Christmas Tournament with wins over Pace Academy 61-55 and Monticello 100-75. The Bulldogs also defeated Jackson on January 4th, 91-56.
Soccer tryouts for boys and girls who are interested in playing will begin Monday, January 20, 2014. A physical must be on file to tryout, along with $40 insurance payment and consent/release forms. See Coach Jones for details. Forms may be found on the MP Soccer website.
Baseball tryouts for the upcoming season will begin January 28, 2014.  Anyone interested in trying out should see Coach Gastley.  Also visit our MP Baseball website for updates and necessary forms.
Tennis Anyone?  Tennis tryouts will be held January 21-22, 2014, from 3:30-4:30 on both days at the MP courts.  Please see Coach Waite if you have any questions.  You may also visit our MP Tennis website for forms and updates.
Media Center Message
Student Media Festival

The Georgia Student Media Festival will be held in May.  Our school-level judging will take place in February. Students are encouraged to submit multimedia projects they may have already created in one of their classes during first semester, or something they may create this semester. Projects do not have to be created just for this festival.  The deadline for submitting entries is February 21, 2014. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. English, the media specialist.  You may also refer to the following website for details: http://www.gsmf.us.  

Soundzabound - Royalty Free Music for Schools:  This library of royalty free music is great to use with multimedia projects.  It meets all the licensing and technology requirements needed for education.  Click here to access our MP Soundzabound Music Library.  Students will need a password to access this music.  Please see Mrs. English in the media center for the password.  This resource and others can be found on the MP Media Center website
