Monroe County Schools Featured in GLISI Report
Georgia Leadership Institute for School Improvement (GLISI) has recently released a research reporting which showcases findings of case studies of school and system leadership.  You can read the report  titled "CONDITIONS FOR SUCCESS: Community Pride, Sustained District Focus, and

Open Enrollment for Health Benefits is open through November 8.  Open Enrollment for the State Health Benefit Plan will close on Thursday, Nov. 8, at 5 p.m.  The website for the OPEN ENROLLMENT process is here. Through November 8, you will be able to make your health coverage selections for the coverage year Jan. 1, 2014 to Dec. 31, 2014.  A Decision Guide is available through the website.
Visitors Tour Schools to See PBIS in Action
Georgia Department of Education guests, the Georgia Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, visited Hubbard Elementary School, TGScott Elementary School, and Mary Persons High School recently.  The group also watched PBIS videos and instructional videos highlighting PBIS best practices in Monroe County Middle School classrooms.
You can view Mary Persons High School football games through the NFHS Network.  Come out to the game Friday night or watch online as they play Veterans High for the 2AAAA region championship.
Walk and Talk
Superintendent Anthony Pack invites staff, parents, and community to participate in a special wellness opportunity on Mondays and Wednesday
afternoons.  At 4:30 p.m. on each Monday and Wednesday, Mr. Pack is walking and talking with families and staff.  The walk begins at central office at 4:30 p.m. with a walk to and from the Education Center. The group then travels to MP and back to Central Office.
News Media Guidelines

The Monroe County Board of Education and Administration of Monroe County Schools desires to maintain an effective working relationship with the news media.

 

As such, news releases concerning the operations, plans, or programs of the school district will be released from the Superintendent's Office with the approval of the Board as appropriate.  Releases concerning only the functions or programs at individuals schools may be approved by the principal upon consultation with the Superintendent or his/her designee.

 

News media personnel are to contact school principals to request permission to enter a building to requests interviews, take pictures, or cover an event.

The Give 5 Club at Mary Persons is hosting a "Running for Resources" 5K road race to benefit Monroe County Schools students in need.  This race will take place on November 2nd with a fun run at 8:30 am and the 5K will follow at 9am.  The cost of the race is $20.

Grant Applications on Behalf of MCS

The Monroe County Board of Education and Administration of Monroe County Schools appreciate continued support our parents and community members provide in an effort to offset expenses to taxpayers by researching and applying for grants on behalf of either the school system or an individual school.   

As such, all grant applications completed on behalf of Monroe County Schools must be submitted to the superintendent or his/her designee for approval prior to submitting the documents to the individual or organization issuing the grant.  For details on our grant process,  click here.

Board of Education to Meet Tues November 12
The Monroe County Board of Education will meet for its fall work session on Tuesday, November 12 beginning at 3:30 p.m. in the board of education meeting room at central office.  To access the agenda, click here.
Vote for MP High 5 Sports Team
Fox5Atlanta will feature one high school football team this week.  Mary Persons is one of the five teams for this week's poll at http://www.high5sports.com/category/241132/team-of-the-week. All votes must be received by 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, so click for MP.  Entry is also available via text messaging. To vote, send a text to 78015 with the keyword TEAM 3 in the body of the message. Voters will receive one reply text confirming the vote, for every text vote sent. Three text votes per person per hour. Message and data rates may apply.

Pumpkin Contest of Characters

KBSutton's media center hosted a Halloween pumpkin contest this week.  Students and their teachers created pumpkins to reflect book and media characters. 
Holt's Kindergarteners Have Science Fun
Kindergarteners in Mrs. Bernadette Holt's class at Hubbard Elementary School conducted several science experiments this week including the one pictured above.
PBIS Rolling Strong at TGScott
At TGScott, students earn tickets from their bus drivers for displaying responsibility, respect, and safety. The school keeps a tally of the tickets for a quarter, and then the winning bus wins a reward. Bus 706 (Gloria Johnson's bus) was the winner for the first quarter.










Thank You Parents: Save the Date for Spring

KBSutton Elementary students observed "Red Ribbon Week" to celebrate being drug-free.  The students dressed up to show what their future careers will be.
