The Monroe County Board of Education will hold a public hearing on Thursday, January 9 at 7 p.m.

regarding 2014-2015 Elementary Zone Lines.

Signing Up to Speak at the Public Hearing
for Re-zoning Elementary Schools

Individuals (one member per family) or groups may sign up to speak at the Public Hearing for Re-zoning Elementary Schools upon arrival to the Public Hearing.  The sign-up sheets will be given to the Board Chairman at 7 PM (the start of the meeting).

Format for the Elementary Re-zoning Public Forum

Upon entering the building, a table will be set up for speakers to sign-in. Speakers are taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

Procedure:

The Board Chair will call the meeting to order, followed by the invocation and pledge. The Board Chair will call on the Superintendent to provide relevance for the need to consider re-zoning the three elementary schools and an update based on public feedback received to-date.  The Board Chair will read the speaker procedures.

Speaker Procedures:

While welcoming input from all of our stakeholders, the Board recognizes that in order to conduct a productive and informative hearing, certain guidelines and procedural rules must be clearly defined.

  • The speaking time allotted is 3 minutes for individuals (only one speaker per family) and 5 minutes per group. A yellow card will be held up when there is one minute remaining and a red card will be held up when the speaker's time has ended.  The intent of the Public Hearing is to last no more than 1.5 hours.
  • The Board Chair will call speakers to the microphone. All remarks shall be made to the Board of Education as a body and addressed through the Chair.  Remarks shall not be addressed to individual Board members.
  • Speakers may bring printed material and other supporting materials. These materials should be given to the Secretary of the Board (the Superintendent).
  • Speakers are asked to keep their remarks respectful.  Anyone who becomes disrespectful will be asked to leave.
  • The Board will not respond to comments made by the speaker at the called meeting unless Board members signal the Board Chairman they wish to respond to particular questions.  Speakers should remain at the microphone when a Board member chooses to respond to a question.
