BOE Meeting Reminder
The Monroe County Board of Education will meet for its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 10 at 7 p.m. in the central office board of education meeting room.  For the full agenda, click here.
Walk and Talk with the Superintendent has had between 11 and 16 participants in the first weeks. Mercer Estes even joined the group in his stroller.

An Invitation to Walk and Talk with the Superintendent
Superintendent Pack invites staff, parents, and community to participate in a special wellness opportunity on Mondays and Wednesday
afternoons.  At 4:30 p.m. on each Monday and Wednesday, Mr. Pack will be walking and talking with families and staff. 

The walk begins at central office at 4:30 p.m. with a walk to and from the Education Center.  Then the group will go up to the square and turn left on to Lee Street, to Montpelier Avenue and then through the high school parking lot with a return to the starting point at central office.  The entire walk is approximately 3.2 miles. Mr. Pack invites families with students and small children to join us -- just bring the stroller and make sure that you are dressed for light exercising.

Reasonably priced student school day/accident insurance is available to parents of Monroe County School System students through K-12 Student Insurance.  
Parents interested in this coverage -- which supplements coverage for a family's health insurance, or can serve as primary coverage for a child with no other insurance -- may visit the website by following the link below. Please Remember... Safety First for All Students

All schools require ALL parents/ guardians to sign-in when walking students to classrooms in the morning.  If you wish to continue to walk your children to their classrooms, you will need to enter the main school entrance, sign-in, and obtain a visitor's badge prior to walking down the hall. Thank you for understanding the purpose behind this new procedure is to ensure the safety of all students, faculty, and staff.

Gold Rush, a Mary Persons High School pep rally tradition, returns to Dan Pitts Stadium this Thursday at 7 p.m. The pep rally kicks off the football season as Mary Persons plays Jackson High School  at home on Friday, August 30.

Our team's success is shaped not only by our players, coaches and employees, but by our fans as well. Our student performances are enhanced by a responsible, attentive audience that shows appreciation for our students and their efforts. Our goal is to promote a high-energy environment to lend support to our students, while maintaining a wholesome, family-oriented, student-focused atmosphere by defining certain acts or types of behavior that are unacceptable.

Artificial noise-makers (such as compressed or diaphragm air horns, whistles, drums,  cymbals, etc.) will not be allowed in any Monroe County School System events held in any and all athletic and performance facilities. Monroe County School System reserves the right to remove a noisemaker of any kind if it is interfering with others' enjoyment of the game or performance.

Irresponsible conduct will not be tolerated at Monroe County School System athletic or performance events. Unruly patrons will be subject to ejection, arrest, and/or possible loss of ticket privileges. This applies to all employees of the Monroe County School System, their sub-contractors or designees, stadium visitors, members of the press, and ticketed patrons.

 

To ensure that all have a quality athletic event experience, each patron should act responsibly and be considerate of others. The following acts or types of behavior will not be tolerated in Monroe County School System athletic and performance facilities. (Note that this list is not all inclusive, and Monroe County School System reserves the right to amend or address behaviors not specifically listed here.)

  • Behavior that is unruly, lewd, disruptive, or illegal in nature.
  • Possessing and/or concealing a firearm, explosives or other weapons
  • Possessing or using illegal drugs.
  • Fighting, taunting or any action that may harm or endanger others.
  • Harassing or threatening other patrons, stadium staff, players or game officials.
  • Projecting images onto players, coaches, officials, broadcast or network employees or other sideline personnel by aiming a laser pointer, spotlight or other such device at them.
  • Intoxication or other signs of alcohol and drug impairment (Intoxicated patrons will not be admitted to the stadium).
  • Using abusive/vulgar language or profanity in proximity to other patrons.
  • Making obscene actions or gestures.
  • Nudity - to include the removal of shirts, blouses, and other items of apparel that may offend others.
  • Smoking or smokeless tobacco.
  • Throwing objects.
  • Entering the sideline area or playing field.
  • Unauthorized selling of tickets or other merchandise not officially sanctioned and/or approved on Monroe County School System property.
  • Unreasonably obstructing the view of others.
  • Interference with the progress of the game (including but not limited to throwing objects on the field).
  • Failing to follow instructions of Monroe County School System representatives.
  • Any other acts or behavior that in the judgment of Monroe County School System that poses a threat to other patrons or diminishes their enjoyment of the game.

Monroe County School System reserves the right to deem an act or exhibited behavior to be inappropriate and act accordingly.

Administrators Train on new Teacher
and Leader Evaluation Tools
Monroe County Schools administrators joined neighboring school system leaders to train on the new Teacher Keys Evaluation System (TKES) and Leader Keys Evaluation System (LKES).  Monroe County Schools will participate this year with ten percent of teachers evaluated through this new instrument and accompanying electronic platform for teachers and their evaluators. In the 2014-2015 school year, all teachers and leaders in Monroe County Schools will move to this evaluation protocol.  For more information on this new evaluation process, click here.

Employee Tailgate Reminder MC Logo

The Annual System Tailgate Party for employees will take

place prior to the game on Friday night. Employees must RSVP by noon on Tuesday, August 27 to attend, enjoy food and fellowship with co-workers.  Employees must also submit payment for non-employee guests by the same deadline.

Through the generosity of Monroe County Board of Education members and business partners, this annual event will start at 5:45 p.m.  on Friday in the grassy area adjacent to the MP Freshman Campus building.   For more details, employees are encouraged to review the recent email regarding this event. 

 

Fuel for Learning 

FREE AND REDUCED MEAL APPLICATIONS

Have you returned the new free and reduced price meal application? Get an application at your child's school office or call 478-994-2031. Only one application has to be completed for each family, and all applications are kept confidential.  If your application is denied, you may re-apply at any time during the year. If you were approved for free or reduced price meals last school year, we must have an updated application on file at the beginning of this school year for your child to continue receiving the benefits.

Visitor/Volunteer Information
In accordance with state laws, our schools requires visitors to report to the school's front office and register.  Additionally, volunteers who serve our schools are required to participate in state-mandated training on an annual basis.  For more information on volunteer training, click here.
Monroe County Schools Announces
New Enrollment Requirements
In alignment with districts across Georgia, Monroe County Schools has instituted new enrollment requirements for the 2013-2014 school year.  To review those, click here.  Families which meet the qualifications should call 478-994-2031 to make an appointment to enroll with Mrs. Cindy Seymour.
