Ways that Parents can Help Students get Ready for a Great Year!
Backpacks, school supplies, bus schedules, and after-school activities. Those are just some of the things you think about when gearing up your child for a new school year. But what are the most important things parents can do to help their student prepare for a great year?

1.  READ!  One of the best ways to help students is to give them reading opportunities. The local public library is a great place to start, and area bookstores are ready for your student with reading incentives and programs as well.
2.  SLEEP!  As we get closer to the start of the school year, students need to ease back into a regular nightly schedule.  Beginning about two weeks before school begins, students need to start returning to a regular schedule for rest.
3.  ATTITUDE -- YOURS and THEIRS!  Kids pick up on your attitude.  If you complain about shopping for back-to-school clothes and supplies, they'll pick up on it. If you speak negatively about a teacher before the school year even begins, then they may start the year with thoughts that the year may not go well.
4.  WRITE!  Your student needs regular writing practice.  Let your elementary child practice handwriting or spelling by making grocery lists, sending postcards, writing letters, or creating email messages.  For secondary students, the journaling process can help them be stronger writers when they begin the school year.
5.  ENJOY!  Make sure that your child has time to experience summer through camp, community programs, and other offerings.  Your student can also use plenty of days to play, and sometime during the late summer you should hear, "I'm bored."  School is just around the corner...
