A Message from Finance to Monroe County Schools' Employees:  W2 Preparation for Employees

One of the Business Office's first tasks for the new calendar year is preparation and distribution of W-2 reports for the 2012 tax year. We want to expedite this process and have your W-2 available to you as quickly as possible.

Employees are to login to the Employee Self Service (ESS) using the link found through the system and school web pages (Employee Menu/Current Employee Information/Employee Self-Service) and choosing the opt-in for W-2.

This Opt-In will allow you to access your W-2 form on-line immediately when it is available. (You will receive an email later this month letting you know the W-2 is available.) Through the ESS, you can print your W-2 when you are preparing your tax return and as often as you need it.

For more information, check your email for the step-by-step directions.

Resolve to Hydrate

Did you know that your body is two-thirds water? Water is a crucial component of our bodies.

We lose water all the time in our sweat, breath and when we urinate. We lose water even faster during exercise, and it's fairly common for children to get a bit dehydrated - especially when they are playing hard and having fun. The best drink for you and your children is water, and it is important that we encourage our kids to get in the habit of drinking water.

Pure fruit juice isn't a bad option, but it does have some disadvantages. Fruit juice is acid, which means it is not kind to your child's teeth. Fruit juice is also quite sweet, which can cause your child to develop a sweet-tooth. Limit fruit juice and always dilute it with water.

These days, many children don't drink water - drinking gallons of sweetened soft drinks instead! Children are more susceptible to dehydration than adults. Mild dehydration can cause tiredness, constipation, dry mouth and thirst.

Dehydration can even affect your child's' short-term memory and their ability to do simple tasks. Mild dehydration can be easily remedied by drinking water.

A Message from the Superintendent:

Thank you for taking time before the holidays to complete the 2013-2014 School Calendar survey.  Over 400 parents, faculty, and staff completed the survey.  The input was invaluable.

During the next few weeks, MCS will seek additional stakeholder input as we update the Student Dress Code for 2013-2014 and the MCS Vision, Mission, and Guiding Principles.  I will let you know via Monroe Messages when those surveys are available.

Again, your input is very important to the Board of Education and MCS Administration as we implement policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure safe and caring teaching and learning environments.

Respectfully submitted,
Anthony D. Pack
