Samuel E. Hubbard Elementary Students use QR Codes and Pen.io to publish their fall poems

For the full post of this technology happening, click here for Hilary Mitchell's Technology Coach blog.

Students at Hubbard Elementary recently posted fall poems online using http://www.pen.io which allows users to create webpages instantly.

After that, through Mrs. Misti Sikes, media specialist and teacher guidance, students published their poems using QR codes.  Now visitors can use their smartphones, tablets, ipods, and more to access the poems by scanning the QR codes.  To learn more about QR codes, click here.
When users scan the QR codes with the smart phones, tablets, or other similar devices, they are taken to the published poems of HES students.

Georgia Department of Education Launches Georgia's Future. Now
State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge recently unveiled a first-of-its-kind video web series called "Modern Teacher" as part of new statewide campaign to help build community support for public education.
The novel approach is called Georgia's Future. Now!  a movement of forward-thinking educators, supportive communities and business leaders answering the call for help.

"It's a research-based initiative, born in the classroom - not in the boardroom - with living examples of what works for teachers to prepare all Georgia students for college and careers," said Superintendent Barge. "It's time to stop tearing down public education and start building it up. There are many things working well in our public schools - and plenty of things not working well - so we need to rally around the successes and build on those and share them with other schools."
No tax dollars are being spent on the video web series.

A Message of Wellness:  Facing the Holiday Feasts with Confidence

There is only one word that can help us get through the holiday temptations, EXERCISE!!! It is inevitable that during this time of year everybody prepares their holiday traditional baked goodies and extravagant meals. In anticipation of a lapse in willpower motivate yourself to increase the length and intensity of your exercise routine.

Before you take your place at the finely set table to enjoy your delectable edibles, challenge yourself to get a nice brisk walk in first. Feeling rejuvenated, you will most likely put less on your plate. Remember, everything in moderation. You will inescapably have leftovers, so don't feel compelled to fill that plate with all of your favorites as if you will never be able to taste those dishes again. You will not feel the sensation of being full for about twenty minutes, so pace yourself.

After you have taken the opportunity to indulge in the fruits of your labor, make an effort to go for another walk or play a spirited game of football with the family. The more you emphasize EXERCISE the less you have to worry about growing in size!

Favorite Book Voting Made Easy this Year for TGScott Elementary Students
For the full post of this technology happening, click here for Hilary Mitchell's Instructional Technology Coach blog.  At TGScott Elementary School every year, Mrs. Cassandra Ogletree, the Media Specialist, has the students in PreK - 5 vote on their favorite book.

Mrs. Shipman's students voted in the classroom using the activboard.
This year, rather than create paper ballots and having to hand tally, Mrs. Ogletree created a survey online through Edline which students accessed throughout the school to do their voting.
Mrs. Colvin's voters came to the media center to cast their favorite book ballots.
All of TGScott's favorite book voters got stickers when they cast their ballots.
