Traditional Marketing Channelsstevens
Coordinating Direct Mail with Online Channels
by Tina Stevens

Last month I wrote about direct mail and the effectiveness of this traditional marketing channel for both communicating with customers and prospecting for new ones. Direct mail alone can be successful and it can be even more powerful when combined with digital marketing channels. Let's look at these digital options, some you are using currently, and others that are up and coming.

Retail Operations: manual
Advertising & Marketing Training

In this always-evolving digital world to be successful you need to be extra smart about your advertising and marketing.

To help, NAMTA has launched another Retail Operations Training Manual, this edition focusing on Advertising and Marketing.

"A critical key to the success of any business is advertising and marketing," said NAMTA Executive Director Reggie Hall. "The internet and explosion of digital developments over the past several years has created many more options and challenges for our members. This manual is designed to explain and, hopefully, simplify some of the processes and decision-making."

The text includes important information on how to brand your business, create an annual advertising budget to fit your company and develop a sensible marketing plan.

The manual is FREE to NAMTA members as a downloadable pdf. Click here to fill out a request form.

Why 'Webrooming' Could Bring Customers Back Into Stores

Is America's love affair with online shopping waning? The attraction hasn't disappeared completely, but new research has found that consumers are increasingly heading to local stores to purchase items that they've researched online...

Organized Retail Theft Costs Stores and Shoppers
Organized retail crime - not just your run-of-the-mill-shoplifter - has hit almost every store in the past year, experts say. Nearly 90 percent of retailers have been victims of organized retail crime, the National Retail Federation found in a survey this spring...

5 Ways to Keep Tabs on Your Business While on Vacation
If you're a small business owner, it may be tempting just to work straight through the summer (not to mention fall, winter, and spring). After all, how are you supposed to run a business when you're gone?

But what if you could take that much-needed vacation while still keeping tabs on your business and employees?

13 Best Practices for Building Solid Small Business Operations
Running and scaling a business will always be challenging. But having a solid foundation of smoothly operating practices underlying your company can make it much easier. To find out how successful entrepreneurs were building their operations, we asked 13 founders from Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC) the following question: "As a business owner, what do you feel is most important when it comes to building solid small business operations?"

The Customer Service Habit: Why Your Company Culture Needs To Catch It
Want to deliver customer service so good it knocks your competition out of the running? If so, you can't leave it to happenstance.  Extraordinary customer service comes from building an organizational, cultural habit: making sure great customer service feels like the norm, the expectation in your company culture, rather than an exception, a fluke.

"Art Matters" T-Shirt Received Rave Reviewstshirt

The buzz surrounding NAMTA's increased focus on art advocacy was all around Art Materials World in Pittsburgh.

A new logo was unveiled, a new website (www.namtartadvocacy.org) dedicated to Art Advocacy was launched, Randy Cohen with the Americans for the Arts spoke at the General Session on the importance of the arts, and Samantha Steelman from the Arts Action Fund helped NAMTA members learn how to support art funding in their own communities.

The new logo was featured on the hotel key cards as well as on luggage tags and T-shirts.

Many members inquired about purchasing the popular t-shirt to sell in their stores, give to their staff or even to use for customer promotions and special events . . . and NAMTA is happy to accommodate.

But first, NAMTA needs to know just how wide spread this interest is. So, if you want to purchase multiple t-shirts for your store or business let us know by contacting Leah Siffringer at [email protected] by May 31.
