The contemplative dimension of the Gospel manifests as an ever-deepening union with Christ and the practical caring for others that flows from this relationship. It reveals the deeper meaning of Christ's life and teaching.
Theological Principle # 7
So that they may all be one; just as You, Father, are in me and I in you, may they also be one in us.
John 17: 21

LENT
FEBRUARY 18- APRIL 2, 2015Ash Wednesday, a day of fasting, is the first day of Lent in Western Christianity. It occurs 46 days before Easter. According to the canonical gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, Jesus Christ spent 40 days fasting in the desert where he endured temptation by Satan. Lent originated as a mirroring of this fasting 40 days as preparation for Easter. Ash Wednesday derives its name from blessed ashes from palm branches of the previous year's Palm Sunday. Ashes are placed on the heads of participants with the words, "Repent, and believe in the Gospel". Lent is a time of heightened and more purposeful engagement with the many elements of Christian life. It has a particular focus on discipline, penitence, fasting and reflection upon the passion of Christ. For many it is also a time to evaluate and renew one's praying, reading and relating to God through scripture and serving.

ASH WEDNESDAY
February 18, 2015
"You are dust, and to dust you will return"
This ancient formula will be heard
by millions of Christians
all over the world
this Ash Wednesday
as the sign of the cross is made
in ashes on their forehead.
This symbolic act is both a solemn reminder and an invitation to renewal.
Lord God, this Lent help me to do my best to keep my mind fixed on you and your Kingdom.
