Justin Bieber and Kids Up Front Give New Lease

on a Child's Life

The following was submitted by the FORCE Society for Kids' Mental Health following their client's attendance at a Justin Bieber concert in October 2012:

How profound, a teenage girl survived a suicide 10 months ago states, she was glad to be alive! She put into context a Justin Bieber concert and the joy this experience brought her. She attended on her own, but quickly was adopted by a group of teen girls (from Richmond) to dance and sing the night away. I understand they exchanged emails and will likely connect again. We celebrate her life and we all thank you. I want you to know your thoughtfulness makes a big impact and difference in the lives of children, youth and families.

Thank you, thank you,

thank you!!

Message from Executive Director

Dear Kids Up Front Community,

In looking back over 2012, I am reminded of the many wonderful opportunities Kids Up Front had the privilege of providing to underserved children and families in 2012. Last year, we delivered  38,798 inspiring experiences for kids and families. The financial value of these experiences is $1,184,516.  These impressive figures represent a dazzling variety of arts, culture, sports and recreational events and activities that otherwise would not have been possible.

As we take stock of the past year, I am grateful for the overwhelming generosity of the community to support our unique ticket distribution programs with donated event tickets. Your unused tickets have truly touched the lives of disadvantaged children and created hope and memories that will last a lifetime.

At the heart of Kids Up Front lies strong and vital partnerships. We are built on a foundation of participating and engaged partner agencies and donors. We have many generous supporters to thank; at this time, I would especially like to acknowledge three exceptional donors who have demonstrated significant financial contributions to Kids Up Front: ZLC Foundation, Macdonald Realty and HSBC. As the recipient charity for the Annual ZLC Golf Tournament for three consecutive years, Kids Up Front received a total of $127,500. In addition, ZLC has also donated several thousand dollars annually to Kids Up Front in proceeds raised at their breakfast seminars and for Kids Up Front's 19th hOle gala.  Macdonald Realty chose Kids Up Front as the recipient of funds raised at their annual Christmas party for three years, resulting in a combined total of $31,825 for Kids Up Front. In 2012, the HSBC Group awarded Kids Up Front a $5,000 donation in October followed by a whopping £50,000 (British Pound) donation in December in lieu of corporate Christmas cards.

As we issue in a new year, I am encouraged by the support of our donors whose contributions have enabled Kids Up Front to accomplish our mission and I look forward to working with both current and new supporters in 2013 to create more life changing experiences for children.

Warmest regards,

Churchill Armoured Car Service In-kind Donation Reaches $100,000 for 2012!

Armoured guards boost opportunities to change a child's life.

When Churchill Armoured Car Service Inc. President Joe Melonari heard about Kids Up Front and their need for help two years ago, it wasn't difficult to see how the two organizations could work together to improve the lives of thousands of children throughout the Lower Mainland. "Kids Up Front did a survey and the results showed that more child-serving agencies would take advantage of ticket donations if they could find an easier way to get the tickets. I knew Churchill was in a position to

help," said Melonari.

Working with Kids Up Front Foundation (Vancouver) Executive Director Cindy Graves, Melonari and his team set up a delivery service that saw armoured guards pick up concert, theatre and sports tickets that are donated to Kids Up Front and deliver them to agencies who are then able to pass them on to underprivileged children - many of whom have never had a chance to attend such events as a football game or a ballet. Read More

What do you do at Kids Up Front?

I am a volunteer accountant for Kids Up Front Vancouver.  Each month, I compile financial reports and at year-end, I will prepare the annual financial statements, tax filings and help with the external audit. Last year, I also helped out at the 19th HOle Event as a silent auction host and as a cashier.

Why do you volunteer?

I volunteer because I want to give back to the community, to find challenge and variety outside of work, and to meet like-minded and passionate individuals. Kids Up Front has given me such a rewarding opportunity to hone my accounting skills while serving an important and crucial cause.

What do you do when you are not volunteering?

I am an audit manager at MacKay LLP, where my practice is focused on public company audits, particularly in the junior mining sector.  I love to travel, read, practice yoga, and try new restaurants around the city.
