RAA hosts University of Alaska students

RAA welcomed two University of Alaska seniors, Melissa Lee and Brett Laichak, at its Washington, DC, headquarters this month providing additional background information for their semester-long team project to research and develop recommendations for addressing potential short-term and long- term pilot shortages. Other visits the students made included A4A, FAA, ALPA and congressional representatives on the Hill. Read more about the UAA Aviation Technology Center here.

Approach and Go-Around Safety Seminar brings issue into focus

Globally, the number one cause of accidents are approach and landing accidents, the majority of which result from unstable approaches. A two-day seminar, organized by RAA, Flight Safety Foundation and JetBlue, focused on the complex issues relating to stabilized approaches, go-around decision making and execution. With over 100 attendees, the call-to-action event brought together industry experts from ALPA, Boeing, Flight Safety Foundation, ExpressJet Airlines, Presage, NTSB, American Airlines, FAA, Jazz Aviation and JetBlue.

RAA Training Committee supports Regional Airline Pilot Training Conference at WATS 2014

How the regional airline industry is adapting to regulatory and government issues, pilot supply and demand, as well as embracing key safety initiatives such as AQP, ISIAS and fatigue were some of the top session highlights during Halldale's WATS 2014 Regional Airline Pilot Training proceedings April 1-3 in Orlando. Panelists included RAA Training Committee members providing "real-life" experiences from their respective carrier's operations. Compass Airlines Captain Al Barrios led a discussion with Seneca College's Lynne McMullen and University of North Dakota's Kent Lovelace on the collegiate market and the abilities of today's new hire pilots. Air Wisconsin Chief Flight Instructor Captain Paul Preidecker provided a frank discussion focusing on the guiding principles of pilot professionalism.
