RAA asks Congress and FAA to address pilot supply challenges

RAA issued a call to action for Congress and the FAA to work together to fix the pilot supply challenges outlined in the recently released GAO report "Aviation Workforce-Current and Future Availability of Airline Pilots".  RAA noted the 1500 hour rule created an arbitrary 'quantity versus quality' standard, a new obstacle adding extraordinary time and financial burdens on highly trained pilots and blocking their entry into the workforce.  The 1500 hour barrier has impacted communities large and small, and hundreds more cities could lose their scheduled flights, with thousands more jobs lost across all sectors.

RAA Regional Operations Council elects leadership changes
Captain Alison Donway, Horizon Air Director-Flight Operations, will serve as Regional Operations Council (ROC) Chair bringing her numerous years of flight experience to this important RAA committee. Hired by Horizon Air in 2000 as a first officer on the Bombardier Q400, Donway spent five years as a line pilot then became interested in a leadership role and was promoted to Assistant Chief Pilot for Horizon's Portland, OR base.  In 2010, she became AQP Manager, and two years later was named Horizon's Director-Flight Operations.

Captain Shane Losee, SkyWest Airlines Director-Flight Operations, has been named ROC Vice Chair and will draw on his 20+ years with the St. George, UT-based airline.  Responsible for the daily operations of over 3,000 pilots, Losee has also served as SkyWest's Manager-CRJ Standards for two years and as a Check Airman. With type ratings in the CRJ 200/700/900 and Boeing 737, Losee has also managed and developed flight training programs for the Embraer and CRJ models at SkyWest.

"Congratulations to the full ROC for making this important decision, and a special thanks to Ali and Shane for volunteering their time. Both are proven leaders, and we are all very fortunate to have them in these roles," notes Scott Foose, RAA Senior Vice President-Operations & Safety.
