Desperate to Lose Weight?  The Consequences of Skipping Meals   

Whether it's because of a bathing suit or a class reunion, there's usually something pressuring women to lose weight.  That self-inflicted stress can push you to choose what seems to be the easiest and fasted way to watch the numbers drop on the scale: skipping meals.  The truth is, this method sabotages your metabolism and causes weight gain.  By not eating regularly, you send your body into starvation mode, set yourself up for poor food choices, bad eating habits, and a host of other health issues.   

 

Does this sound familiar?  Your days are busy, so lunch is an easy meal to skip.  By 3 o'clock and you're starving.  You might hit the vending machine to calm the hunger pangs and then the drive-thru after work because you're exhausted.  Mentally, you may think you saved calories with only two meals and one snack, but it's the calories in each meal and their source, making the difference.  You can eat throughout the day and only consume 1,700 calories when you fill up on vegetables, lean protein, and a few fruits, keeping your blood sugar level.  However, the restaurant meal, could easily exceed 1,700 calories and be high in bloat-causing sodium.  A  2014 study showed "people who ate at a fast food or full-service restaurants consumed an extra 200 calories per day on average than people who ate at home".  Or are you one to forgo breakfast?  

 

When you cut out meals, your body isn't getting the fuel it needs to function.  Your metabolism is a chemical process that maintains life.  When it 's compromised, in order to ensure survival, it slows down or nearly stops, depending on how little it has eaten, and appetite will drop as well.  When food is ingested, calories will get stored as fat because your body doesn't know when it will get another meal.  This cycle causes weight gain and can be easily avoided by eating regularly.  Irregular eating habits also throws off your blood sugar, leading to diabetes risk and binging.  Drops in glucose also ruins concentration.  Your nervous system uses it for energy to think and produce "pleasure" hormones, like serotonin.  Without it, mental fatigue and depression set in.  These and other mood swings can also be caused by this or a lack of vitamins and nutrients.

 

It was estimated, in 2011, 31 million Americans skip breakfast.     According to a 2013 study by the research journal, Obesity, eating a big breakfast lowers fasting glucose and insulin levels as well as triglycerides.  They took two groups and put them on a 1,400 calorie diet.  One group had a big breakfast (700 calories) and the other a big dinner (700 calories) and each had 500 for lunch.  Aside from the above improvements shown in their blood tests, the "big breakfast" group lost an average of 17.8 pounds each and three inches off their waist line, compared to a 7.3 pounds and 1.4 inch loss for participants in the "big dinner" group!   "In addition, studies of young people found that breakfast-skippers consume 40 percent more sweets, 55 percent more soft drinks, 45 percent fewer vegetables and 30 percent less fruit than people who eat breakfast," states, the Institute of Food Technologists.  Hopefully, we've convinced you not to skip this meal.  Here are 21 easy breakfasts to get your metabolism revved up. 

 

These are all terrible prices your body pays for vanity, using this method to lose weight.  Eat regularly (especially breakfast), watch portions, read labels, and fill up on veggies to keep excess fat off, improve concentration, prevent mood swings, keep food cravings controlled, and notice improvements in your blood tests, if any are off.  You will also have more energy for day to day activities and workouts.  All leading to better and faster results to get fit and feel fabulous for life--not just one occasion!  You are worth it and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Our Pole & Aerial Parties Are Fun For The Whole Family!
Don't let the fact that your grandmother will be attending your bachelorette soiree or your brother, your birthday celebration, deter you from having a pole dancing party at our studios!  All are welcome and all have a fantastic time!  Age relaxes inhibitions, making the grandmothers who've attended our parties a tremendous enjoyment to teach.  They remind us to embrace special opportunities, as we only live once.  And no one ever said pole dancing was for ladies only, so invite the men on in for a birthday bash, office gathering, or other event!  Our experience has been that men like a challenge and it doesn't matter how well they or anyone does, they've all had a great sense of humor doing it.  Those are the parties you will learn, laugh, and remember the most, when all are included.  See below for more details.  We have something everyone will love!

Appetite Suppressing Foods
If you're constantly hungry and looking for a way to control it, try incorporating a high protein breakfast, fiber rich foods, and moderate amounts of healthy fats into your diet to suppress appetite.  Not only will you get vitamins and nutrients your body needs, you avoid wasting money on pills with the best marketing.  First, remember to drink water regularly, since your body can feel hungry when it's dehydrated--something all too common in the summer.  This will save you from consuming unnecessary calories and keep you feeling your best. 

Fiber rich oatmeal with blood sugar-regulating cinnamon can help you get through your morning without needing a snack, though adding eggs will keep you satiated longer.  A study, noted in Shape.com, found "those who ate eggs ingested an average of 330 fewer calories over the course of a day than the bagel-eaters".  Additional research reported by LIVESTRONG.com, shows similar results when teens were given high protein breakfasts.  They felt fuller longer and ate less during the day.  How much protein?  Getting more grams at breakfast makes sense, to carry you through the day.  While they suggest getting 30 grams at breakfast, it doesn't specify sex.  The average woman needs 46 grams for the day, while men require much more.  To figure out a woman's daily protein needs, use POPSUGAR's chart.   

Craving sweets?  Apples and sweet potatoes are loaded with fiber and help regulate blood sugar.  Aside from the fiber in avocados and flax seeds, they contain monounsaturated fat and fatty acids, respectively.  With the warm weather, a salad loaded with leafy greens might sound better than vegetable soup, though both are filling which means eating less of the main meal.  Adding hot sauce or cayenne pepper to your dishes can boost metabolism and reduce how much you eat at the next meal by 60 calories.  Those small changes can mean saving several hundreds of calories in a week!

AerialKIDS is for kids ages 6-8yrs and 9-12yrs to learn basic acrobatic/gymnastic skills, conditioning and many amazing circus skills! Each class will include training on the circus equipment (Hammock, Silk Ribbons, Lyra, etc.) and build coordination, skills, and mini sequences to prepare them for our Fall Recital.  This class will keep them engaged while building strength, increasing flexibility and confidence!

AcroTOTS is for kids ages 3-5yrs so bring your tots to learn basic acro/gymnastic skills, conditioning and coordination to prepare them for the circus!  They will tumble, balance, climb and jump along with working on increasing flexibility and confidence!  They will have a blast!  Gymnastics attire and/or gym shorts/warm up pants/leggings and bare feet.

Are you interested in becoming a Pole Fitness Instructor?
PoleFIT Revolution will be offering their 1st of many Instructor Trainings starting with PoleFIT Essentials.  This training will give you the basic tools to break into the world of Pole Fitness as an instructor.  You'll learn the ins and outs of a variety of Beginner Pole Fitness Spins, Power Moves and Dance Choreography and most importantly how to teach it to others and progress them safely.  Beyond the class room you have the option of completing your training by logging class observation & team teaching hours at our studio.
