Setting Deadlines For Your Goals  

Feeling sluggish and not yourself, after the holiday indulgences?  Have you started telling yourself that this is the year you will shed a few pounds, live a little healthier, and not fail at it again?  It's certainly known that goals help us achieve our dreams, but failure can still happen because deadlines are not made or unrealistic ones are set.  For instance, it's not a good plan to lose twenty pounds before a special event two weeks away or go on your dream vacation when you haven't done any preparation, making it a nightmare.  Take some time this month and figure out what goals are important for you and formulate a plan.  In the April 2013 newsletter, we talked about setting small goals to reach the big goal, and deadlines should be applied to those, as well, or you may not obtain the main one when you want to.

 

Deadlines give us accountability, push us, and help us prioritize.  Without them, not much would get done.  School and work both rely on them for completing projects, so the next lesson or task can be tackled.  Retaining the mindset of "someday" will not get you closer to the dream, desire, or destination.  There is no "someday".   Before you know it, years go by.  You haven't taken that special trip, nor saved for it--as costs go up--and you could've saved for it 2-3 times over.  Do you want to learn something new: a language, a skill, or even make a career change?  Don't use the excuse, "Do you know how old I'll be when I finish?"  Yes.  The same age if you don't, but with less knowledge, no new career, nor the happiness those things will bring. 

 

Sit down this month for a few minutes and plan out your achievement.  Write what you want to accomplish and figure out the timeline and schedule it will take to do so.  What are the small things you need to do each day or week?  Write those out, as well. Remember to reward yourself when a deadline is met. If you have a friend with goals, hold each accountable for your deadlines.  The extra support and potential consequences you "threaten" each other with, can be highly motivating.   Don't be discouraged by how long it will be until you get to your destination.  There are still big bonuses when you go slowly.   

 

Take weight loss for instance.  If you lose healthily--1-2 pounds a week--and give up one bad habit for a good one each week, you will have far greater success at keeping the fat off than someone who lost it fast and questionably.  Calorie counting apps can help you calculate your daily limit based off many factors, including your workouts.  List out your bad health-related habits and each week replace it with something good, like relaxing yoga before bed instead of a snack.  For missing deadlines, penalties can be cleaning out your closet or detailing your car--yourself.  If you reach a deadline, rewards can be a mani-pedi, a new top in a smaller size, etc.  Even if it takes months, you'll be happier for having done it!  We look forward to sharing such a journey with you!

Pole FIT Essentials is a 45 minute class that breaks down pole dancing spins and some transitional moves at a slower pace than any other pole class we offer. Great for pure beginners and those who want a slow steady pace to progress through their learning curve. If you are nervous about learning pole, this class will put your mind at ease and help you build confidence and skill. NOTE: There will be NO intricate TRICKS taught in this class, only basic and grounded spins suitable for everyone to build strength and technique. Suitable for all ages (18+) and all sizes. We allow 1 - 2 PEOPLE PER POLE in this workshop style class to help encourage and motivate through the learning process. Photo Shoot Makeup Advice
January 30th, we're honored to host nationally known photographer, Don Curry in our studios for a shoot!  (See Events for more details.)  He's know throughout the pole and aerial community for his unique and artistic work with lighting and anything to enhance the subject he is capturing.  To make the most of this opportunity, we have makeup tips for this photo shoot and any other ones in the future.  The bottom-line is, you don't want to have spent money on beautiful photos, only to regret not using more liner.

Makeup for a photo shoot needs to be bold.  The camera will wash out up to 30-40% of your makeup, which is why you will need to apply it more like you would your nighttime look.  Even if you're posing for a wedding photo, that rule applies, though you'll want to look more like yourself.  For a pole photo shoot, the lighting will be darker and more theatrical.  You may even want to change up your style to become the sexy alter ego you have hidden away!

You will want to start with a clean, moisturized face.  The foundation can be liquid but to create a matte finish, you will need lots of powder.  This prevents glare, from the lights, on your skin.  Natural powder foundations work very well for this and prevents a cakey appearance.  Avoid applying makeup in fluorescent lighting.  It gives skin a greenish hue.  Your lips should be kept to one color--liner, matching lipstick--a shade or two darker than you normally wear.  Gloss will add a shine, giving the appearance of fuller lips.

You will have the most fun with your eyes.  Because we have such varying skin and eye colors, along with eye shapes, there is no one site that has all the styles and an internet search is fun and easy.  Makeup Notebook's dramatic eye makeup tips, is an excellent place to start.  With innumerable styles to choose from, you may want to skip classic smokey and go for rocker or cat eyes--there's still time to try different ones out.  Internationally renowned makeup artist, Lisa Eldridge has video tutorials to help you narrow down your decision and application struggles.  Remember to practice, practice, practice!  15 minutes before shooting is not when you want to try out a new look.  Enjoy, gorgeous!

Ah...It's that time of year again when we complain we've eaten too much and exercised, well, maybe not at all.  Use this simple test from the Mayo Clinic (and a friend's help) to evaluate where your fitness level is at.  It's easier to work towards a fitness goal if you know where you are starting from.  Don't be discouraged if you're in a worse off place than you believed you'd be, take a look at our class schedule and choose something you can get excited about doing!

 Chair Spin Tutorial  

If Santa brought you a pole, you'll love practicing the Chair Spin on it!  It's not only pretty, but it's also an excellent way to strengthen your core, as you hold your legs up and off from the pole in a tucked position.  It, like many other spins, is used for transitions, a base for more advanced spins, and on it's own.  Play around with it by landing on your feet or taking it all the way to the floor.  If nothing else, you'll feel like a kid again as you do it.  Enjoy!

Can you believe it's been 6 years since we opened our doors and brought our Unique, Fun & Effective Fitness Program to Metro Detroit!  It's time to CELEBRATE!  We will also be pairing this celebration with our Annual Student Recital.  If competing isn't for you, but you'd like to showcase your talent, consider performing for our Annual Student Recital Saturday, March 14th 5 - 7pm in Madison Hts.  We plan to showcase Individual Routines, Group Routines, and Doubles...Pole & Aerial!  Let us know if you are interested in being part of the show!  Group routine content will be taught in part of PoleTRICKS and PoleFIT Classes and we will offer ShowFIT in FEB to help with individual routines and Group Routine rehearsals.  Private lessons including creative choreography assisted privates available...more details to come!
