This month we're focusing on meditation and other stress relievers. You'll blossom into a more relaxed, focused, and even smarter person when you perform this ancient introspection practice. Resetting Yourself With Meditation 
Our brains have a set point for our emotions; so if you are normally happy and something eventful/bad happens, causing depression, you will reset over several months to your normal emotional state. This can be achieved faster with meditation. Meditation may conjure up an image of a swami chanting "om" but it's defined as continued thought, reflection, and contemplation. It's about being in the moment and shutting out unwanted thoughts for deep introspection.
There are 20 scientifically proven reasons to meditate, though we'll focus on a few. The harsh winter left many of us edgy and bad tempered. We're sweating over the small stuff that in the grand scheme of life, aren't worth the energy on getting mad about. By incorporating this ancient practice, we can become happier, relaxed individuals who can think more clearly. Focused thought helps alter our hormone levels--like lowering cortisol, the stress hormone.
While you may think this all sounds good, but you'd rather de-stress in another manner, meditation has a positive snowball effect on our physiology as well. It reduces/eliminates anxiety and depression, it reverses arteriosclerosis--hardening of arteries, boosts our immune system, prevents dementia, and makes us more intelligent. All things that we may not/cannot feel are happening to our bodies, yet studies show all this to be true and reported by Psychology Today.
Since we can't fully predict how we'll age, now would be a perfect time to invest in a proven method to make our aging easier. Meditators have a bigger brain than non-meditators, slowing deterioration--the perpetrator of dementia. Their intelligence is elevated because the prefrontal cortex is thicker and that's in charge of attention and control. Part of the reason they also don't stress out as easily as others.
When and where to meditate is up to you. There is no wrong way to meditate if you feel better afterwards, so don't worry you aren't doing it correctly. You need about 15 minutes, 6 days a week to get the benefits discussed. Like any new activity, you will get better at it as you do it and if one method doesn't work there are others to try. An easy one to get you started is the wisdom lotus Qigong method. Some studies, for the discussed benefits, were based on 8 weeks and is a fair amount of time to try it. After all, you have only good things to gain from it!

Relax and Reconnect with Yourself in AerialYOGA
Defy gravity and get some air in your yoga poses that will give your body and mind the break it needs from life's stresses. Aerial yoga conditions your entire body and allows you to build greater strength and flexibility unlike any other mind/body class. You will learn stretches, as well as flying and core poses, while using the silk hammocks. You will progress based on your abilities, but be amazed by what you can do the very first day! R.S.V.P Etiquette
Invitation etiquette isn't complex, though it has deteriorated over the years. It can be blamed on our electronic age or lack of teaching it to each new generation. If you are unclear, here are the rules:
1) Answer within a day or two. If your schedule is terrible, let the host(ess) know this if your reply will take longer. Just don't forget--respect their time and event planning.
2) Respond to the invite as requested; call if it includes a phone number, email if there is an email address, etc.
3) Changing your yes response to a no is fine if you have a death, illness, work conflict, or babysitter no-show and tell the host(ess) immediately. Changing a no to a yes is only okay if it doesn't upset the arrangements. Again, call immediately and ask--don't be offended if they can't accommodate you.
4) Do not ask, "May I bring..." If it were okay to bring a companion or your children, the invite would say so. For example, don't bring your children along to an adult only event if the babysitter backs out. You will only offend the host(ess) and other guests.
5) Before leaving the event, thank the host(ess). Calling or sending a note of thanks the next day is also appreciated. If you didn't have a good time, you can simply say, "Thank you for the memorable..."
We hope this clarifies any confusion and following this will help make you a desirable guest for any future events.

The Amazing Relaxation Effects of Magnesium
Magnesium is a mineral that is very vital to your body's function and growth, as it has over 300 chemical reactions, according to WebMD. It is also used to treat disorders from heart disease to multiple-sclerosis and other ailments such as, constipation and skin ulcers. You can easily get most of the wonder mineral in food, though doctor-diagnosed deficiencies may require a supplement for treatment. So how does this miracle mineral relax your body? "Magnesium directly interacts with your muscle tissue through a process called ion transportation. When magnesium contacts your cell membranes, it bonds with specific receptor sites that open up the cell membrane and allow other mineral ions to enter, such as calcium and potassium. These ions help regulate muscle contractions and might ease muscle tension," states Ryan Haas of Livestrong.com. If you are under lots of stress, reevaluate what you eat. Food changes are easiest and highly beneficial when we're talking fresh and natural. Many people are lacking magnesium, but look at the average diet of fast foods and limited vegetables. Foods you want to focus on will be rich in fiber, like leafy greens, broccoli, squash, and whole grains. You will also find it in low-fat dairy, nuts, seeds, and--drumroll--dark chocolate. This mineral is present in coffee too which is where the discrepancy is. Certain foods can deteriorate your body's magnesium levels, so limit your coffee intake along with: sugar, sodas, salt, and alcohol. If you need to take a supplement, take care in what you choose. Certain ingredients aren't compatible with your body and therefore, you're quite literally flushing money down the toilet. "Avoid magnesium carbonate, sulfate, gluconate, and oxide. They are poorly absorbed (and the cheapest and most common forms found in supplements)," says Dr. Mark Hyman in this Huffington Post article. Your doctor will determine how much you need, but most people benefit from 400mg to 1000mg per day.

Yoga Practice: Savasana
Savasana means "corpse pose" in Sanskrit. It is the last--and most important--part of yoga practice that goes beyond relaxation. There have been many requests for a recording of Melanie's savasana instructions. We created this video so you can follow along with her to achieve a more relaxed state, after your yoga session at home. No music was included, allowing you can use your own or none if you prefer.

Inside Knee Spin Tutorial
This spin uses a basic grip or a one-handed grip. Both legs come in front of the pole and you can land on your feet or bring it to the floor, so you will land in a "mermaid" position. It's simple, pretty, and you can vary it by kicking your outside leg out, as demonstrated in this video.
