Happy St. Patrick's Day, Gorgeous!
This month we're reminding you that luck alone won't get you to your goals. You need to work at what it is you want and to do that successfully, we're debunking the top fitness myths. If learning transitions and floor work for pole dancing is on your goal list, read about T.M.I. FIT. It'll also teach you how to move in heels, adding a new dynamic to your dancing! And if you've been confused lately about organic foods--which ones to definitely eat--we have the list for you. You'll boost your healthy eating while staying within a budget!

Unlucky 7: The Top Fitness Myths 
Believing in fitness myths is nothing more than wishful thinking. If you're in a rut, are you adhering to any of the following? If so, make the necessary changes and you will achieve your goals!
How much you sweat determines how good of a workout it was. Sadly, no. Sweating is nothing more than our body's cooling system. If sweating alone determined our calorie burn, we'd all have saunas in our homes or welcome 95 degree days. You can have a very successful workout with little sweat. This depends on the activity, environment's temperature, and your body's uniqueness.
Crunches get rid of abdominal fat. This is no more true than squats burn fat off your booty. Targeted exercises only work specific muscles. Eating sensibly and doing cardio workouts like our SurgeFIT, PoleFIT, and/or BoxFIT classes will burn off that unwanted cushioning, but where you lose it first/most depends on your physiology.
If you feel good, you aren't overexerting yourself. When you take a hiatus from activity--no matter how long--you can do too much too soon. The excitement of getting back into good condition overshadows what your body is capable of. It can leave you at risk for injuries that set you back even further. Talk to us about your goals and we can guide you along.
No pain, no gain. It's normal to feel muscle soreness after a tough workout. The pain we're talking about is injury. You won't get stronger pushing through it and in some cases you will get weaker. Be very conscientious of your body and what it's telling you. If you experience any pain (not to be confused with muscle burn) in our classes, tell us! We'll give you modifications, an alternative exercise, or any other advice needed.
Stretch before exercise to reduce injury. A cold body attempting deep stretches is more harmful and doesn't improve ROM (range of motion). In fact, you will destabilize the muscles prior to exercise, leaving you vulnerable to a host of injuries. A warm-up before deep stretching will increase ROM, so save that for the cool-down part of your workout.
Weights make you bulky. Yes, we've addressed this one before, but it bares repeating because so many women are afraid of this. Women aren't built to bulk like men. You would need to follow a strict and intense regimen to become like a body builder; something you won't get at this studio. We want you to become as strong as you need to be, for your personal goals and well being, by increasing your lean muscle mass.
Sports bras only prevent bouncing. They prevent sagging too. It isn't simply old age that causes the dreaded sag. Sports bras protect the Cooper's ligaments during high impact activities. These connective tissues are responsible for keeping breasts firm and giving them their shape. All the more reason to buy comfortable, proper fitting bras and remember to give them a test! You wouldn't be the first woman to jump around in a fitting room!

Get Organized: The Bachelorette Party Checklist
It isn't realistic to assume you will have a successful Bachelorette party if a venue(s) isn't booked in advance, a guest list not made, and activities decided on. We've had people book our studio for their party, but never bothered to check our location. Some people are calling from as far as Wisconsin! That kind of sloppy planning only makes enemies for the hostess, so here is a checklist from The Knot to get you started.
Perhaps you never wanted to have the burden of hosting such an event, but you were entrusted with it and owe the bride a well thought out/planned party. Delegate tasks you don't have time for and/or to the people who would do them better. Pride and excessive control can also backfire on you, so let others contribute; just make sure you follow up with their progress. Good luck!

Best Foods To Buy Organic
The supermarkets have been steadily increasing their organic choices--from produce to soup--as demand grows, but buying all organic can break a budget. No one wants to consume pesticides, hormones, and antibiotics as they eat what by all appearances is a healthy meal; so we're going to tell you which foods are a must to buy organic and why. It may not be possible to avoid pesticides in the meat we eat. They end up in the animal fat, so a lot depends on what the livestock eat. Organic meat typically means there were no growth hormones or antibiotics used on the animals--synthetic chemicals to make them grow faster for more profit--and eat foods treated naturally for pest control. For more on the practices organic farmers use vs. non-organic farmers, check out this FITDAY article. Buying organic meat also extends to other animal products, such as milk and eggs. Studies are hard to conduct on what the hormones' effects have on us because we produce them ourselves, but the extra amount can throw off the body's processes. They are believed to raise our cancer risk, so making the change is worth that alone. If you haven't tried organic meat and its products, you might find they taste cleaner, are nicer in appearance, and even cook better.
When it comes to produce, it would stand to reason that all should be bought organic, though that isn't true. Items such as blueberries can have as many as 50 pesticides found on it! Whereas, an orange has a protective skin. To make the deciphering easier, the USDA came out with their Dirty Dozen list. Included in this list are the top 15 fruits and vegetables that are clean and unnecessary to buy organic unless you choose.

Floor work is an important part of pole dancing in many ways: it allows you to be expressive, it gives you a break between spins and tricks, and it makes any routine more enjoyable to perform/watch. In this video, our instructor, Dee teaches a few transitional moves to add to your pole dancing at home. The slower you move, the sexier these moves look and the more challenging they are.
