The parties have ended, the sweets eaten, and the pants a bit harder to zip up.  Make PoleFIT Revolution one of your resolutions for 2013.  Burn off the extra pounds in our TeamFIT BOOT CAMP classes and not only will those pants fit again, but you may even need to buy a smaller size!  Start this new year right by reprioritizing your goals and managing your time efficiently to give fitness precedence.  And while you cut back on your calories, we'll offer up some snack suggestions to keep hunger at bay, too.

Don't Let Life Derail Your Fitness Goals This Year!

It's a new year and a perfect time to evaluate your fitness and life goals or create some if you don't have any. It's easy for your ambitions to get sidelined by life, like work, school, kids, and the unexpected. If you take a step back and examine what you've committed yourself to, what will you find?  Are you trying to do too much for others or wasting valuable time? If so, reorganize and reprioritize your goals with simple techniques that'll help you focus on what's most important to you, like your health.

 

Brainstorm about what you want and use these tips to help you get there. Remember that the more specific you are about a goal, the more you can break it down into smaller steps to achieve it. It isn't enough to say, "I want to lose weight and be healthy." Pinpoint what losing the excess fat means. Is there an activity you want to try, like jet skiing, but don't feel comfortable enough to do it?  Perhaps you want to put on shorts this summer for the first time in years and burn your capris. Having something specific to aim for makes your journey easier to plan out and you will accomplish it when taking it step by step.

 

Using the above as an example means exercise should be considered a constant in your schedule; however, it's often the first thing to get eliminated when your days become overwhelming. This has a negative effect on your health in the long run, making your future life more difficult. To stay on track, you'd start by evaluating your diet and making the necessary changes to clean it up, record your daily calories, and fit in physical activity whenever possible.  All of those mini goals will help you reach your bigger target--lighting the match to your big pants--while helping you establish healthy habits.

 

If you are having trouble prioritizing your time, this tool kit can help. Humans are the most adaptable creatures on the planet, so you will adjust to a new schedule even if the transition is uncomfortable and eventually, it'll become second nature like your last one. If it means taking our classes at different times or taking ones you never have before, then do so. Trying new things will challenge you and keep boredom at bay.  Take your time and remember that you only fail if you don't act and working towards something slowly is better than not at all. We're always here to cheer you on!

Watch yourself transform as you work with a certified trainer in a small group setting to reach your fitness goals, be it weight loss, muscle tone, stability, strength, and/or endurance. Keep Your Calories in Check and Hunger Away!

When cutting back on calories, don't cut back on the number of times you eat throughout the day. It's natural for our bodies to feel hungry every 3-4 hours. Often, people think that they shouldn't snack between meals to lose weight, however, that sabotages their efforts for a couple of reasons. The first, by not fueling your body at regular intervals, slows down your metabolism.  Secondly, you'll be more likely to binge at your next meal and consume more calories. Hunger can supersede good judgment, so instead of sticking with the turkey wrap with vegetable soup, you crave the cheese laden lasagna and brownie. By choosing snacks with fiber, protein, and healthy fats, you'll feel more satiated, because the fiber is filling and the protein and fat take longer to digest. Here are 88 Unexpected Snacks Under 100 Calories to help you stay on track and try this Dr. Oz recipe, it's a PFR favorite!

 

Apple Pie Breakfast Bulgar

 

Ingredients

1/4 cup bulgar or 1/2cup oatmeal*

3/4 cup diced apple

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp vanilla

1 cup water

2 tbsp Greek yogurt

1 tbsp walnuts or raisins(optional)

Directions

Soak bulgar then mix all ingredients except yogurt and walnuts in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for 3 minutes. Serve with yogurt and walnuts on top.

*Bulgar has twice the fiber of oatmeal, slows the absorption of sugar, and prevents mood swings.  You'll feel satisfied for hours!

Fitness Challenge:

Jump Rope and Upper-Body Workout

Get in a quick, energizing boost during your busy day with this cardio and upper-body workout. You'll need a jump rope and band, which are both inexpensive and pack lightly, if you have any trips coming up, to keep your fitness goals on track. You'll start with the jump rope to warm your body and raise your heart rate, then do an upper body segment. This will repeat until you have completed moves on both sides of your body for a 15 minute workout, but feel free to make it longer for more fat burning results.

   

Pole Move of the Month:

Pole Sit

The Pole Sit is a simple looking transitional move that helps build up tolerances for other tricks. You will need the skin exposed on your entire legs, so that your contact points with the pole stick. If you've never tried this, you may find the pull on your upper thigh skin a bit painful and the pressure on your bottom foot uncomfortable. This pressure on the foot will improve and make climbing easier as you build a tolerance. Practicing pole sitting, little by little, will dramatically improve this and the pulling feeling on your thighs.
