Director's Update
Dear Husky Families,

Happy Mothers Day!  We hope everyone is having a wonderful day of celebration with loved ones:)

Rama Khoury receives the Young Dreamer of the Year Award!

Congratulations Rama (11th grade) for receiving this prestigious leadership award from the Young Dreamer Network! We are so proud of you!  A special shout out to Mr. Ballard and Ms. Ching for their teacher leadership with YDN!

YDN exists to empower teens to become difference makers in their communities both locally and globally. They are identifying challenges our world faces and are addressing these challenges through strategic actions. In the U.S. our program entails leadership development, service-learning, international volunteer trips and after-school workshops at local high schools.

Summit Prep Students Win Top Awards at LearnStorm Finals!

This Saturday, several Summit Prep students participated in the LearnStorm Math Final Event hosted by Khan Academy and Google.  Over 76,000 students participated from 50% of the Bay Area schools.  The following Summit Prep students performed exceptionally well!

  • Erin Mostowfi won 1st place in the 11th grade division and received her award from Sal Khan!
  • Emma Dubridge won 2nd place among all 12th graders!

  • Jocelyn Bahena-Urbina won 3rd place among all 12th graders!

Special shouts outs to 10th grader Aiden Nelson and 9th grader Angela Chung for representing Summit Prep, and a huge thank you to all of our teachers for supporting our students in math skills during Summit Solves!  This new addition to our daily schedule has made a tremendous impact on our student progress by providing personalized math support for all students! Sal Khan was so impressed that he publicly recognized Summit during his closing ceremony!  Great job everyone!

Summit Prep Blood Drive a Success!

Thank you Madison Schmidt (12th grade) and Laurel Naylor (12th grade) for putting together Summit Prep's blood drive!  We are so proud of your leadership and we are grateful for the opportunity to show our core values of courage and compassion!

Mission Critical State Testing This Week!  Persistence is Power!

As partners in our students' success, we would like to thank our parent community for supporting our students in preparing effectively for high-stakes tests by maintaining high expectations at home.  Your support and commitment encourages our students to be persistent in trying their absolute best, and we appreciate your active part in supporting our mission to prepare all students for success in college, career, and life!  AP exams begin promptly at 8:00 am.  Let's show our core values of respect, responsibility, courage, integrity, and persistence!

Last chance to take the parent survey is this Wednesday, May 13th!

This is your last chance for the year to cast your vote on what's going well and how we can improve. Don't miss this opportunity to be a true partner and advocate in your student's education. It will only take 5 minutes to complete. And, you'll be entered in a raffle to win a mini iPad!!

Take the survey now

Summer of Summit 2015 is fast approaching!

The summer program day runs Tuesday to Friday, from 9am-1:30pm, with free lunch from 1-1:30pm. 1:30-3:30pm is optional PLT and a few Expeditions.

We are very excited for your student to join this experience with many other Summit students!  Over the next 2-3 weeks, your student's mentor will be sitting down with him/her to review the course offerings and discuss the schedule that will best meet your student's interests, passions, and academic needs. Your student will then indicate their top preferences. We will build their personalized schedules from that input, endeavoring to give them choices within their top preferences. While we will do our best to place students in the courses they prefer, we can't guarantee that they will get into all of them. This process will be completed by May 25 and we will inform you of your student's schedule afterwards. We encourage you to discuss your student's preferences with them during early May. In the meantime, we invite you to take a look at the revised Summer of Summit Program Course offerings.

If  you want to change the dates your child will be attending Summer of Summit, please resubmit the registration form (www.tinyurl.com/summerofsummit) noting the new dates. Your registration will automatically be updated and your student will be enrolled.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact Lesley Martin, Summer of Summit Program Coordinator (lmartin@summitps.org).

Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher Appreciation Week - was a great success. Thank you to everyone who helped organize and provide the delicious food for the faculty and staff this week.

College News
College Acceptance

As the college acceptance season comes to a close, we are very proud of the accomplishments of the Class of 2015! 99% of seniors were accepted into a four-year college or university. In addition, Summit Prep and Everest were recognized in the San Mateo Daily Journey for their college successes. Check out the story here

In addition, we greatly appreciate the support of parents and the community in donating snacks, breakfast food, pens, and pencils. Please continue to encourage juniors and seniors to get lots of rest and to arrive at school on time!

AP tests continue this week as students prepare for the AP Government, AP Statistics, and AP English Language tests. Students and teachers are hard at work preparing for these tests. For example, in AP US History students worked with Mr. Kelly to create a detailed, classroom-size timeline in their final study session.

Testing

By the end of the school year, all juniors should have taken the ACT or SAT at least once. If your child has not yet registered for these tests, the final deadlines are rapidly approaching.
