Director's Message
|
Dear Husky Families,
We would like to thank Erin Miller and all of the volunteers that helped with the school library beautification project this weekend! We are so excited to unveil the enhancements this week!
CAHSEE This Tuesday And Wednesday! Our 10th graders will be taking a big step towards meeting our college and career ready mission by taking the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) this Tuesday and Wednesday! By successfully passing the English test on Tuesday and the Math test on Wednesday, our 10th graders will be meeting one requirement for college entry! Please support our students at home by encouraging them to study the CAHSEE playlist, practice CAHSEE math problems on Kahn Academy, and rest well the night before. Go Huskies!
Punctuality - Lets Get To School On Time! We have seen a rise in tardiness and we would like to enlist your help in improving punctuality. Punctual students embody our core characteristics of respect, responsibility, and compassion - they are taking responsibility for their own learning, and showing respect and compassion towards our teachers who have planned lessons that begin at 8:15, and their peers who have also arrived on time ready to learn. Punctuality is also a "habit of success" that is valued and looked upon favorably in college, career, and life. We are eager to see at least 95% of our students arrive on time and we thank you for helping our students wake up a little but earlier, and depart a little but earlier. Together, we can support our students in their quest to meet our mission.
Here's to a great week!
Penelope Pak McMillen and Wren Larson Maletsky

Fundraising Gala

Annual Auction and Casino - May 2 @ Twin Pines/Belmont
Don't forget to send in your RSVP! It costs $50.00 per person to attend the auction on May 2, and enjoy all of the festivities; however, if you RSVP before March 22, the ticket is only $40.
We noticed that the invitation had the wrong address for the auction venue - please note that the address is 30 Twin Pines Lane, in Belmont.
The day of the event will require some volunteers. The set up and clean up events are excellent opportunities for students to earn community hours - so why not ask them to sign up? We also have needs during the event itself - for all positions, check out the following form. http://bit.ly/18sWfeP

Library Renewal
A big thank you to Erin Miller and all of the volunteers for their hard work making our library awesome. Be sure to stop by during the week to see the transformation.
Books Needed for the Summit Prep Library We still need a few books for the library. We especially need gently used ACT test prep books. There are also books on the "wish list" that are mostly needed to fill out book series. If you are cleaning out your book shelves, take a minute to see the list and sign up, go up at http://bit.ly/1ATr42s. Bring the books to the front desk at Summit Prep and we'll take care of shelving them. If you have questions, contact Erin at emiller.sp@summitps.org.

Woodside Parent Education Mini-Series: 2015
|
"The Mask You Live In," Documentary film from The Representation Project
Introduction by Steve Smith, PhD, Palo Alto University
Thursday, April 2, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Woodside High School, Performing Arts Center (PAC)
The Mask You Live In, a new documentary film premiering at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, asks the important question: Is American masculinity harming our boys, young men and society at large? Compared to girls, research shows that boys in the U.S. are more likely to be diagnosed with a behavior disorder, prescribed stimulant medications (for ADD/ADHD), fail out of school, binge drink, commit a violent crime, and/or take their own lives.
"We must challenge definitions of masculinity, model the change we want to see, then seek it in mentors and teachers who will help our boys stay true to themselves. The Mask You Live In is not just a film - it's a movement. This is just the beginning. We're all coming together in a beautiful way, and the time is now. Our boys don't need to suffer, and they don't need to live in pain."
- Jennifer Siebel Newsom Writer, Director, and Producer of "The Mask You Live In" and CEO of The Representation Project
Tickets are free, but advance registration is requested. Parents, high school students, faculty/staff and community members welcome!
Woodside Parent Education Series events are sponsored by the WHS PTSA, the Sequoia Healthcare District, and the Sequoia Union High School District.
Simultaneous Spanish interpretation will be provided.

M-A Parent Education Mini-Series: 2015
|
"Where You Go Is Not Who You'll Be: An Antidote to the College Admission Mania" with Frank Bruni, New York Times Columnist and Bestselling Author
Monday, April 6, 7 - 8:30 p.m.
M-A Performing Arts Center (PAC)
Over the last few decades, Americans have turned college admissions into a stressful and occasionally devastating rite of passage, preceded by test prep, tutors, all kinds of rankings and a conviction among too many young people that their futures will be determined and their worth established by which schools say "yes" and which say "no."
That belief is wrong. And in Where You Go Is Not Who You'll Be, Bruni explains why, giving students and their parents a new outlook on this brutal, deeply flawed competition and a path out of the anxiety that it provokes.
M-A Parent Education Series events are free, sponsored by the M-A PTA, the Sequoia Healthcare District, and the Sequoia Union High School District. This event is open to parents, students, faculty/staff and community members.
Simultaneous Spanish translation will be available.
For more information, contact Charlene Margot, M.A., The Parent Education Series, Founding Director, at cmargot@csmconsulting.net or (650) 868-0590.
