Director's Message

Dear Husky Families:

We hope everyone enjoyed their week away from school and are prepared to begin Expeditions tomorrow.  We are eager to see our students again and we hope all families have been able to review their student's reflection in the PLP tool over the short break.

Summit Prep's Girls Soccer Team is the PSAL League Champion!

Congratulations to our girls soccer team for their league championship win last Friday!  We are so proud of their teamwork, perseverance, and strength!  Here's a video of our Husky Pride celebration from last Friday.  Go Huskies!

Summit Prep's Boys Basketball Team is a PSAL League Finalist!
A special shout out to our boys basketball team for their strength and perseverance during last week's game against Alma Heights.  You never gave up and you showed everyone the power of persistence.  We have much love and Husky Pride for all of you!

We Want Your Feedback! Parent Focus Groups
Join other Summit Prep parents and Summit's Director of Family Engagement in an annual focus group. The focus group  will cover topics on student, parent, and prospective family experiences as well as include feedback on Summit Prep's LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan). The LCAP is a part of California's K-12 education funding process that guides school decisions. The focus group will provide you an opportunity to give feedback and input on the school that wasn't captured in the parent survey.

If you would like to participate, please fill out this form with your availability.

Winter Athletes Uniform Return - Winter athletes, please launder and return you uniforms to your team parent asap. Or you can drop off yours bagged and labeled with your name at the front desk.  Missing or damaged uniforms will result in a $100 charge per the policy you signed as a participant. Thanks!

Baseball - The first games begin March 3.  The entire game schedule is posted on our athletics website (http://t.maxpreps.com/1yT68wL).

THANK YOU!  A big THANK YOU to all those student-athletes who have worked the concessions.  These funds make up to half of the $15,000 athletic budget, raised annually.  Without each athlete participating there would not be an athletic program.  Your participation is greatly appreciated!

Summit Athletes will be emailed to work an event in the upcoming months.  As Mens Basketball dates or other events become available, those who need to fulfill their 2 shift obligation for this year will be emailed. SPOT
SPOT Meeting Recap

Volunteer Opportunities

At the last SPOT meeting we reviewed the remainder of the Summit calendar and parent engagement opportunities. We are more than half way through the year and we could not have made it without you. Up ahead we will need you to support our students and faculty with food, and at some of the events where we invite new families into the fold. Check out the below signups for specific requests:

Faculty Treats (Thursday Staff Meetings) - some spots are still open (this is a year long calendar, please look for dates where we don't have someone signed up) http://bit.ly/10fBxuA.

9th Grade Lottery (March 7, 2015) - This is the day that the lottery takes place and admitted students announced. We are looking for a crew of existing parents and students to staff up tables to hand out packets and to greet new families, including answering any questions they might have (http://bit.ly/1Lv5lGh).

CAHSEE - March 17 & 18 (10th Graders). We would like to have healthy snacks to give our students the energy they need to take these tests: http://bit.ly/19ZV9Z9.

Teacher Appreciation Week - National week to celebrate faculty is May 4-8. Each grade will be responsible for organizing lunch for one day:

9th Grade: http://bit.ly/1MMjIYm
10th Grade: http://bit.ly/1MMjLU8
11th Grade: http://bit.ly/1LrXqI0

Testing Days in May - The 11th and 12th graders will be taking various AP tests. Whether you are in those grades or not, please help support our Juniors and Seniors by providing snacks and fresh fruit on test days. Bananas, yoghurt, energy bars, trail mix/nuts, are all great sources of energy that will give them a boost: sign up here: http://bit.ly/19ZV9Z9.

New Family Brunch (May 16) - We will need donations of brunch items as well as some existing families and students to be available to chat and talk to the new families. Sign up here: http://bit.ly/1vZbth7

Fundraising Gala

Save The Date!  Summit Prep's Annual Fundraising Event is May 2!

Please help support our efforts to raise $175,000 for our College Readiness Program, college trips, Expeditions program, Sports program, and classroom materials!

  • When:   Saturday, May 2
  • Where:  Twins Pines Center in Belmont
  • Time:    7-11pm
A formal invitation with more details will be sent in the coming weeks.

Auction

Our annual Summit Auction and Casino is scheduled for May 2, 2015. This year, the event will be at the Twin Pines Recreation Center on Ralston Avenue in Belmont. Like last year, we will have casino games, so come and have some fun! There are many ways to participate, here are just a few:

1) Donate an item to be auctioned off. Gift certificates to local restaurants, performances (ballet, symphony), and other services - all make excellent items. We are all patrons of local businesses, so why not ask them to donate to our school for a great cause? Donations should all be directed to Stacy Guthmann: stacyguthmann@yahoo.com.

2) Attend the event. What other evening do you get to mingle with parents from other grades and all the faculty of Summit? Great way to get to know the community and make new friends. Look for the invitation to the event early March.

3) Volunteer on the day/night of the auction. Many hands make light work and the set up needs to occur in a flash of time, requiring thus a large group for a short amount of time. Great way for students to get community hours - for more details, please contact Maria Suissa: marisuissa@gmail.com

Specific signups will be created shortly.
