Director's Message
|
Dear Husky Families:
We would like to thank all of the parents, students, and teachers who supported our study trips and Class of 2015 community bonding event this week! We all had a wonderful time celebrating our school community and strengthening our personal relationships. Thank you for your compassion, empathy and commitment to all of our Summit Huskies!
A Big Shout Out to Summit Girls Soccer! Come to the game this Wednesday!
Our girls soccer team entered the rainy game on Friday afternoon with an undefeated record and fierce drive to finish strong. The team they faced had only one loss all season -- to our Summit Huskies. Against many odds and setbacks with scheduling and weather, our girls played with courage, passion, and heart to come back from a 0-2 deficit and tie the game 2-2. Thank you for making this season extra special for all of us. We are incredibly proud of you and we will forever remember your Husky spirit! We have another game this Wednesday at 7:30pm at Woodside High School so please come join us!
Senior Appreciation Basketball Game This Tuesday at Woodside!
Our Girls and Boys Basketball Team will be honoring players from the Class of 2015 this Tuesday evening! Come show your Husky Pride and celebrate our players at Woodside High School at 5pm (girls) and 7pm (boys).
A Big Shout Out to Senior Erin Miller!
Erin Miller, a proud member of the Class of 2015, has been working on a school improvement project for The Girl Scout Gold Award -- the highest achievement in Girl Scouting! This "prestigious award challenges scouts to change the world" by creating a seven-step plan to "solve a community problem -- not only in the short term, but for years into the future." Erin has been working on improving our school library by curating books and resources, and by assembling a team to redesign and renovate the physical space. We are so grateful for her passion and commitment to our school, and we are excited to show you the space when the work is completed! Thank you Erin!
Attendance Improvement: Student Consequences and School Consequences
At Summit Prep, we expect students to attend school each day unless they are contagiously ill or have a family emergency. Our school goal is to have 98% of our students present each day, and we are currently hovering around 95%. Students are negatively impacted by absences because they fall behind and must account for the loss of learning opportunities. The livelihood of our school is negatively impacted by absences because our school funding is determined by "Average Daily Attendance." Each student absence results in the loss of learning and precious resources that are directly used to provide a high quality education for all of our students. We hope that we can rely on our parent community to uphold our values and respect the time that each teacher/mentor/administrator invests in our children. We cannot afford to have our attendance fall below 98%, and we are asking for your support in helping your individual student and helping our school community at large. Students who continue to miss large amounts of school may lose privileges to participate in school functions like sports, trips, prom, and graduation. We hope all families will make an effort to have students attend school each day, unless they are contagiously ill or have a family emergency.
Curious About How Your Student Is Doing In School? Check the PLP Tool!
It's hard to believe that we're halfway through the year. We are incredibly proud of our students' accomplishments and thankful for the strong community that we've built together. If you would like an update on your student's progress and pacing towards his/her yearly goals, please review the PLP tool, which provides you real-time access to your students' performance and growth. You can see your student's grades at any time through the PLP. It enables us to provide a personalized learning experience for your student by allowing him/her to set individual goals and track progress towards them. Please take time to review your student's grades and have a conversation with him/her about his/her progress. Log into the Parent PLP (https://app.mysummitps.org) and review:
-
Grades tab: How is your student's performance on cognitive skills and completion of projects?
-
Grades tab: How is your student's pacing of passing content assessments?
-
Goals tab: How do your student's grades compare to the goals set in the PLP Goals Meeting? How is your student progressing towards his/her goals and yearly plan?
Thank you for your partnership in supporting your student's goals and path towards college & career readiness. We look forward to a productive and impactful second half of the year.
