Executive Director's Message
Dear Husky Families,

We hope everyone has a restful and safe holiday week with family and friends.  We look forward to seeing everyone after we have all had time to rest and relax with loved ones.

JSSave the Date - Justin Semana Memorial Basketball Tournament Dec 6th!

This week, we are commemorating the life of Justin Semana, a Summit Rainier 11th grade student who unexpectedly passed away last year on November 19th, 2013. Justin was a wonderful and caring member of The SPS community, and we felt a deep loss with his passing. For those of you who did not know Justin, there are some loving tributes here and here.

Justin loved playing basketball and was on the Summit Rainier boys basketball team. As part of his commemoration, SPS will be hosting our first annual Justin Semana Memorial Basketball Tournament. It will be a varsity boys basketball tournament across all five Summit high schools (Summit Rainier, Tahoma, Everest, Prep, and Shasta) in Justin's honor. Everyone across all Summit schools is invited to attend and celebrate his life and the community he loved.

We are also looking for parents to volunteer and with the day. If you are interested, please visit this Signup Genius.  Below you may find more details about the event:

Help us plus the Spring Auction!
It's SPRING... Yeah! Well, not exactly. It is, however, time to plan for Summit's amazing Spring Auction. Our goal this year is to have the best, most attended, Auction ever! To pull this off, we need your help. The Auction will planned and organized by the Auction committee. Are YOU up for the challenge? It will not be easy, but it will be fun! We will have our first Auction meeting on Tuesday, December 2nd at 6pm at Summit. This meeting is open to all who'd like to help out and/or be on the committee. The committee is open to four parents - please email Nick Kaufman at nckaufman@comcast.net if you are interested in joining the committee.

Sees Candies Campaign
Our students received materials this week to launch our Sees Candies fundraiser.  We encourage to get as many as order as possible before all payment is due on 12/5/14.  Products will be delivered on 12/12/14 to all students.  Thank you!

Many thanks to our phone callers
We would like to thank the families who participated in our fundraising phone campaign this week, and we are grateful for all of the generous donations that have come through this week.  We will keep everyone posted with our progress towards our $175,000 goal.

BUT, if you can't bring a dish to share, don't despair. We also have a Posada planned - where we will feature tamales, all authentic and home made by Summit families. These tamales have been donated and will be available for sale (to eat at the event OR take a dozen home for later!). All proceeds will benefit our fundraising drive which is currently in progress.

wfSummit Winter Formal is Coming: Summit's Winter Formal is coming up Friday, December 12. It's an event not to be missed! The dance is held at:

Congratulations! We would like to recognize Tommy Liang and Elsa Gernand from the Class of 2015 as "Commended Students" in the National Merit Scholarship Program. From the 1.5 million students who took the PSAT in 2014, Elsa and Tommy were just two of only 50,000 students recognized for their hard work. We are very proud of their accomplishments!

PSAT scores from students who tested in October of this year will be available in early 2015.

UC/CSU Application Deadline is November 30. Please be sure to submit all applications and ACT/SAT scores by that date!

Please reach out to Wren Maletsky (wmaletsky@summitps.org) for any college related questions.
