Executive Director's Message

PAWPRINT Dear Husky Families -

Thank you so much for joining us at our SPOT meeting and Back To School Night Part 2 this Thursday!  We hope you had a wonderful time meeting our teachers and learning more about our PLP tool.  We hope that you will join us for our future parent engagement events.

Help us secure school funding!
In order for us to receive accurate school funding, we need 100% of our families to submit the application for free and reduced lunch!  This ensures our credibility and directly supports our students.  The application can be found at this link http://bit.ly/1oMn6UK.

PLP Family Meetings Starting This Friday - NO SCHOOL
We are looking forward to meeting with you and your student starting this Friday for the PLP Family meeting.  The purpose of this time is to understand how your child's long-term goals, aspirations, and dreams drive their daily behaviors and decisions.  Students will propose year-long goals and a plan to achieve them with consensus and support from the mentor and family.  Students will also identify action items that will lead to the achievement of these goals.  We are excited to spend time with your family as advocates, coaches and guides!

Thank you!
Penelope and Wren

PAWPRINT  M-A PARENT EDUCATION SERIES

"The Perseverance Process: Strategies for Strengthening Academic Motivation and Persistence"
Kent Pekel, Ed.D., President and CEO of Search Institute

Wednesday, September 17, 2014, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
M-A Performing Arts Center (PAC)

Recent and emerging research suggests that persistence or "perseverance" can improve students' academic motivation and increase performance. In fact, the evidence suggests that noncognitive character traits like grit may be more predictive of future academic achievement than IQ or SAT scores. Fortunately, a growing body of research demonstrates that when schools, youth programs, and families act intentionally to influence motivation and persistence, it is possible to significantly increase both.
Join us for an informative, engaging presentation with Dr. Kent Pekel, CEO and President of Search Institute. To bridge the gap between research and practice, Search has created a new resource called "the Perseverance Process" to turn the research on motivation and persistence into a set of explicit and actionable strategies.
