Executive Director's Message

PAWPRINT Greetings Husky Families!

What a fun and fantastic week of setting our students and parents up for success!  We are so excited to have our students back and we are incredibly grateful for your continued support!  A special shout out to SPOT and our parent volunteers for the delicious refreshments at Back to School Night!

We hope to see everyone at Back To School Night Part 2, which is on Thursday, September 11th at 7 p.m.  We will introduce our Personalized Learning Plan tool to you and provide training on how to best support your student at home.

We will also have our first "Teaching and Learning Tour with the Directors" on Thursday, September 25th at 8:30 a.m.  This is a new format for our "Mornings with the Director," which will include a dialogue about our school and a tour of our classrooms.

The front page of our website has links for: the most updated Events Calendar,  signing up to receive our email announcements, sports, SPOT, and more! The website address is summitprep.summitps.org.

We are still collecting $20 per family for our camping trip!  Our camping trip budget relies on a suggested donation of $20 per family so please remember to drop off or mail $20 to Summit Prep with your student's name.  Checks can be written to Summit Prep.

Our $175,000 fundraising campaign has begun!  We are hoping to have 100% parent participation to raise funds for our college readiness program, sports program. Athletics Director, Expeditions courses, curriculum materials, and student scholarships!  Please be on the lookout for additional fundraising efforts from our parent team!

Thank you and we look forward to seeing your students on Monday!

Penelope Pak McMillen and Wren Maletsky

Camping Trip Update

Thank you to all parents who attended this past week's Back to School event and have signed up for some vital positions for our annual camping trip. Here are the following ways we still need assistance:

Driver Meeting on Tuesday, September 2

Thanks to the great response on Back to School night, we have achieved all drivers necessary to take all students to/from campsite. Now, we need you to confirm/provide paperwork necessary as well as attend the Camping Trip Driver Meeting on September 2, at 7 p.m. at Summit. Please confirm we have your information correctly by checking the google document below.
http://bit.ly/1mFQvzb. Missing paperwork can be turned in at the front desk. To obtain a copy of the driver form, you may download this from the SPOT site: http://www.summitspot.org/downloadable-forms.

Additional Help

We have a sign up list with numerous requests for help and donations. We are still looking for donations of some food items, which offsets the total cost of this trip.  Please take a look and see how you can contribute to this great experience for your children. We need donations of time, money and food for the trip:
http://bit.ly/1tJmMth. Below are a few key responsibilities we need to fill ASAP.

1) One more person to meet US Foods at the campground and inventory the food when it is delivered (Wednesday, September 3) - please respond directly to Sandra Cheung - sandracheung@yahoo.com.

Donate $20 per student towards our camping trip

The camping trip is a great opportunity for our students and the suggested financial contribution of $20 per student builds the entire budget for this event.  Every donation helps us ensure a great learning experience for our students so we appreciate your financial support!  Follow the link for instructions to make the donation: http://bit.ly/spscamping.   Then, once you're all set up, you can log into your online payment account to make the donation: https://system.netsuite.com/pages/login.jsp.-- You may also donate $20 by cash or check. Just turn this in at the front desk in a separate envelope with your student's first and last name.

PAWPRINT  M-A PARENT EDUCATION SERIES

"The Perseverance Process: Strategies for Strengthening Academic Motivation and Persistence"
Kent Pekel, Ed.D., President and CEO of Search Institute

Wednesday, September 17, 2014, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
M-A Performing Arts Center (PAC)

Recent and emerging research suggests that persistence or "perseverance" can improve students' academic motivation and increase performance. In fact, the evidence suggests that noncognitive character traits like grit may be more predictive of future academic achievement than IQ or SAT scores. Fortunately, a growing body of research demonstrates that when schools, youth programs, and families act intentionally to influence motivation and persistence, it is possible to significantly increase both.
Join us for an informative, engaging presentation with Dr. Kent Pekel, CEO and President of Search Institute. To bridge the gap between research and practice, Search has created a new resource called "the Perseverance Process" to turn the research on motivation and persistence into a set of explicit and actionable strategies.
